This place was found for us by a work colleague....when we arrived we were a little daunted by the stairs, but once inside the Carravgio appartment, we loved it, much better than staying in a hotel, a fantastic area, with the Magnolia Bakery on the corner, be prepared to queue for your cup cakes even at midnight!!!! it was out first visit to NY and we will certainly look at coming back, it was great to stay away from all the tourist area of times square etc, Silvia who checked us in was great, we had no problems at all..I would thoroughly recommend this to everyone going to NY....thanks to all at West 11th.

The state of this place is depressing. The stairs in the entry are rickety and about to cave in and there is tired gray paint in the hallways. It is very sad that such a beautiful brownstone is not being kept up. Even sadder if you choose to stay here. You are not allowed to have anyone visit you - there is even a camera in the hallway to keep tabs. This place is so worn down that I would have been utterly embarrassed to bring anyone there anyway.

The folks running the place are strange and unaccommodating .
On my first morning there, I was walked in on by the house keeper while I was inthe bathroom. Instead of accepting "no I don't need house keeping" she insisted on entering and I had to say it three times before she would leave. I sent an email to the owner who had Silvia (the manager) call me stating that the housekeeper needs to come in and empty the trash. I stated not while I am in
the bathroom and there was no trash since it was my first morning. I asked for a do not disturb sign and she stated that guest before stole all the signs and they did not have any.

When I called to make the reservation he could not accommodate my full stay in the same room and that was fine I did not mind being moved. But when Silvia called me to ask when I would be available to exchange keys an argument ensued. It was rude and in no way accommodating to my needs. When I said the time I was available she mentioned that did not work for her and I said well that is my only time. She said we need time to review all the rules again. The rules waste about 20 minutes of your time and I could not bother with that again. She said this is not a hotel and we are not here for your convenience.

You are treated like a child who has never stayed at a hotel, guest house, or B&B. The rules that are reviewed upon check in are ridiculous, long and tedious. This place is not accommodating to anyone whether you are a tourist or in town for business.

I just can't recommend this establishment and I can't believe the rating it has received.

My girfriend and I stayed in the Marcucci apartment at the beginning of March and were thrilled with the location. Just around the corner is the Magnolia Bakery (of Sex and the City fame) and Marc Jacobs shop and a couple of blocks away is Julian Schnabel's Palazzo Chupi. The area is perfect for leisurely strolls with scattered coffee shops and restaurants to tempt you along the way.
The apartment was cosy and welcoming even though the temperature outside was below freezing (watch out for the steps though if you are carrying heavy luggage!). Silvia was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and her recommendations on places to eat were excellent.
If you want a slice of Village life West Eleven Townhouse is hard to beat.

I found this guesthouse to be more than I expected. It was eclectic, comfortable and clean. The staff was very cordial and helpful. It is located in a wonderful part of Greenwich Village, just up the block from the fabulous Magnolia Bakery and the specialty stores of Bleeker Street. There are plenty of interesting restaurants that have the European feeling that cater to fine tastes and in the better weather, some offer al fresco dining. In the midst of the largest city in the world, this is a respite from the sometimes overwhelming energy that is the Big Apple.

My mum, brother and I had a great stay here and you really can't beat it for an amazing location.

I will be honest and say the rooms were a little more shabby than they looked in the photos on the website, but they were very clean and comfortable and because it was an apartment, we really felt like proper New Yorkers living the Village!

Navigating the steep, wonky stairs was difficult after walking the length and breadth of New York every day for 6 days, but it became something to laugh about rather than something to moan about!

There were lots of nice places to eat on your doorstep, loads of really lovely shops to peruse (most quite pricey - unless you want to treat yourself - and why not!), subway stations nearby to get further uptown and it felt like a really safe place to wander at night. We would all definitely stay here again.
