“Please do yourself a favor Do not stop in this restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012 via mobile

We stopped there for the restaurant week ( part of 3). It was Saturday but they told us they would offer the $19.95 3-course meal.
First of all they had so many menus it was overwhelming. To make things easier we decided to go with the restaurant week option the 3-course meal ( big mistake ).

In terms of food quality there is not much to say. The pasta was cooked alright with sauce out of a can. I was not expecting house made pasta at this price anyway so not much to complain about it. It was basically diner food with a diner price.

Regarding the service it cannot get worst:
The hostess that took the order was friendly. But the busboy that served the bread just passed next to the table and dumped the bread basket on the table with no eye contact and no words.
The waiter then arrived with the first course in 3 plates. I noticed one plate was sitting on the food of the second plate- yuck! Then he looked at us and asked " the Caesar?" then he just dropped the plates I would even say threw the plates on the table.
The wait staff never said a word to us they were so rude.
When we got the pasta I guess it was because we had the $20 combo meal we were never offered the Parmesan cheese that all other tables around us got.
I could go on and on about the poor service but you get the picture.
To put a cherry on top of the cake they brought us a check adding 18% tips to the final bill.
I usually tip 20% but I was so ready to tip 10 to 12 % this time to show my disappointment but we were expected to tip18%?!! A mandatory of 18% tips was not even mentioned anywhere i am not sure it's even legal. But what I am sure is that I will never ever go back.

“Tasty and Inexpensive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

Wow! We loved this place. The food was delicious. We ordered the pre-fixe meal. It included soup or salad and 3 different pasta dishes. The soup was incredibly good. What put this place into the Excellent category was the excellent service. We felt like we were there most valued customer and were treated so well. Definitely give this nice little restaurant a chance when you are in NYC.

“Gotta go here!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

Very friendly, quaint place. Very good food. Wonderful people.
We had walked our third and final day in NYC, so we were tired. The only thing that we had not yet done on our trip was to visit a good little Italian place for dinner. We walked from Times Square past several other Italian restaurants and kept passing them up because of high prices or "stuffy" up-nosed attitudes. When we came to this place, the menu outside looked good, but the decor looked "too nice" for a tired family of five in jeans. But the man at the door welcomed us in, made a little joke and got us a table - a semi-circle booth. It is a tiny restaurant, but all in NYC are. Space if valuable. The wine and food were great and for NYC, very reasonably priced. Our teens had pizza and loved it. My husband and I tried some house specialty pastas. Good choices. Their specialties are just that!
The thing that made this place so good for us was the owner(?) or manager who greeted us at the door. He stopped by and chatted with many of the customers. When he stopped by our table he gave advice on the dinner options and came back to recommend dessert. His friendliness won us over!
Please stop by this great food restaurant with great friendly service!!

“Good Italian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

We enjoyed our dinner here. The restaurant is small and tables are very close. Nice atmosphere and wait staff good. We loved the calamari. Would come again.

“Excellent food, Convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

We live in NJ and have eaten at many NY Italian restaurants, including most of the ones in Little Italy. I found L'Allegria through a GroupOn coupon and decided to try it. It's a very convenient mid-town location if you're going to a show or just walking around (9th Ave bet. 43rd and 44th). The food was wonderful! We had the gorgonzola salad, which was big, lots of cheese, delicious! The veal parmesan was HUGE and out of this world and served with a nice side of linguine, just the way my husband likes it (no water!). Their bread was tasty but a little more like pita bread than true Italian. The prices seemed fair (even without a coupon) and we decided we'd definitely go back!
