Three of us were travelling heavily on a 5-day non-stop journey in NYC. Arriving from Washington DC through Penn Station was super duper tiring and taking two big luggage up and down the stairs of the subway is not a fun thing at all.
Upon arrival at the hostel, we met another staircase challenging us. But anyway, after exposing to the essence of a fine city hostel with neat decoration, it made us feel at ease. We feel relieve right away reaching the hostel.
Our room was the first room on the first floor, another relieve knowing we didn't have to take our luggage up another staircase. We booked the double-deck with double bed on the bottom with a twin. The room was rather smaller than we imagined, taking some time to arrange our stuff in place. Finally, It suited all three of us but, of course, not as comfortable as in a 5-star hotel. So if you were their just for sightseeing and needing just a place to sleep, American Dream Hostel is the one. It's very appropriate for travelling with friends, but absolutely not for elders. Some staffs were friendly and helpful but some weren't. We spent much of our time out in the city, so we recommend the place for those who need comfortable bed to get a deep sleep at night.
Pros: The place was clean and equipped with all the facilities we need for a short-term stay. Bathroom was shared but very clean. The breakfast was good enough to fill up our bellies for each morning. We could use internet in our room, the WIFI connection was quite ok, not that strong throughout the night but better than not having it at all. We got a good night sleep there, barely have noise disturbance. Great location in the center of NYC, quite near to subway station and Shake Shack! We just loved it. It's near to the Post Office as well, so convenient to send postcards back home. It was very easy to travel around by subway, but be aware of route changes at night, it could be confusing and frustrating. We were able to leave our baggage for a while after checking out, since our flight was at late night, providing us more time to get a last glimpse of New York city (hope it's not my last visit).
Cons: The laundry facilities was not adequate and they weren't so clean. We use them because we just "have to". Bed sometimes made annoying sound when we move, but that's not a big deal.
