“A decent hotel but not as nice as I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Overall, the hotel is fine and is a pretty good value considering its location. However, based on the hotel's website, I was expecting something nicer. The lobby staff were very friendly and helpful, but the age and mediocre quality of the facilities shows through the renovations. I was surprised to find that I had to keep the hot water running continuously while shaving; if I turned off the tap, it would immediately run cold. Our window faced 3rd Avenue, so there was substantial noise from traffic, though it didn't affect our sleep. We didn't take advantage of the gym or evening wine hour; overall, this is probably a better choice for tourists than for business travelers who can afford something nicer.

Room Tip: Don't get a room facing 3rd Avenue (traffic noise)

Affinia 50 is a great hotel, convenient to so many Manhattan sights. On 5oth at 3rd Avenue, it is a nice walk up to 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Center, up to Central Park or down to Grand Central or even the United Nations. The staff are very accomodating and the wine hour from 5-6 in the second floor lounge is a nice touch. Though they would be better served to come up with another non-alcoholic alternative than iced tea. It was 40 degrees on the day we stayed and the kids did not appreciate cold tea. Even a pitcher of water would have been nice. We were pleasantly surprised with the size of our two queen bed room. The size was large even by non-New York standards. Rooms and bathrooms were recently refurbished and all was decorated in a loft type feel. Affinia 50 does not have its own parking, but around the corner on 51st b/w Lexington and 3rd Avenue is a Quick Park that was reasonably priced. AAA rate was what we used and if you book directly through the hotel's website your in-room wi-fi is included in the price. If you want New York bagels while there, visit Essa -Bagel on third just a minute walk from the hotel. The line may be out the door, but the bagels are pure New York!

Room Tip: Ask for an upper level room if you wish to be away from street noise.

Thank you for your great review! I couldn’t be happier to hear that our spacious rooms were the perfect accommodations for you and your family. We also love our great location as we are right in the middle of everything that New York has to offer. I am glad you enjoyed our nightly Wine Hour and we will be sure to look into other non-alcoholic offerings.

Thank you for choosing us as your hotel of choice when staying in NYC. It will be our pleasure to make your future stay another memorable one.

Best Regards,

Brian Gehlich

A group of us stayed at the Affinia 50 for 1 night last this month.
The hotel from the outside is not impressive, however, the inside is very modern and the lobby staff is great. We were even allowed a late check out at no extra charge.
We reserved 2 rooms and they were both very spacious, not exactly as depicted on the pictures (there was no couch), but for any standards (not just NY standards), very large rooms, modern bathrooms, very clean, nice bedding and pillows, comfortable beds.
The hotel location is also excellent. Free wi-fi in hotel lobby (wish they would extend to rooms).
The rate we were able to get was not a bargain, as I have gotten before on hotels close by, but I know it was comparable to other NY hotels. Since we were a large group, we needed the space.
Definitely recommend it!

Affinia 50 is located at 50th between Lexington and 3rd. The location is great, convenient to grand central, the theater district and 5th avenue shopping. The 2 queen bed suite easily accomodates 4 adults. Rooms were very spacious, very clean. Room rates are reasonable, sspecially with AAA discount. Friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely return!

We recently spent nearly a week in New York City at the Affinia 50. all the members of staff that we had contact with were very helpful and polite. It's a great location for shopping and food in a safe area. There were some nice touches including complimentary wine from five to six each evening and free Wi-Fi because we booked online. We were close to a lot of the main attractions. Having not stayed in New York before I have nothing to compare to locally. There's a diner on the same block and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants all around. Just a couple of blocks from Bloomingdales. Overall a great stay.

First time in New York and this Hotel was in the heart of all the local attractions. No need for a taxi if you want to see Rockefeller plaza, Broadway,Time square , great shopping and restaurants. Very impressed with the door man, front staff and house keeping. We had a suite with a King size bed , and it was very spacious with living and dining room and kitchen. Had a great view of the city. The only concerns we had, was that we were not told about the construction on the facade , even on the 21 st floor, and when we voiced our concern , we were compensated for our troubles. The wine hour was a welcomed addition and the hostess gave us great insight about local restaurants.

We stayed at the Affinia for a girls weekend. The room was huge compared to most NYC hotels and had two Queen beds. We arrived early and they were able to get us into our room early, which was a bonus after taking the red eye. The staff was super nice, I want to make a special mention of Gloria who checked us in. She noted it was my friends birthday, sent up a special treat, always said hello and asked how the birthday trip was going every time we saw her.
Any time we needed anything, we called down to the front desk and we had it within minutes.
I was concerned that the location was not central enough, but it worked out great. There is a subway line close by and it really is within walking distance of Times square and 5th Ave.
The only thing this hotel does not have is a regular restaurant and bar, but there are so many good options close by, it did not bother me at all.

Room Tip: The rooms facing directly on to Lexington or 50th are going to be a bit noisier than others.
