“Great Staff, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Good extended stay hotel right between the UN and Grand Central Terminal. I was there during hurricane Sandy and they had back up power, stocked up on water for us and were always cheerful. Higher floors are recommended to mitigate traffic noise, though not ban being on a quiet section of 46th St. Everything you need is within walking distance. Rooms clean, modern tho the bathrooms are small. Kitchen has an oven as well as microwave and stove, a plus.

Room Tip: Higher floors, but remember, only two elevators.

Aka united nations is perfectly located, well equipped, European style with all amenities e.g. In the kitchen you need. Stuff is professional and always friendly and helpful. Internet is free and with perfect speed. Forget about the breakfast that is just coffee, apples and pastries. And be aware that the aircon is not up to date and more old fashioned and extreme noisy. All in all a perfect alternative to a hotel if you stay longer in NYC.

What pleasantly surprised on the location and cost. It's close to wonderful places to eat. Rooms are very nice and clean. I especially loved the white sheets on bed...AHHHH...Definitely coming back. The staff was very couterous and breakfast was nice. The doorman will hail a cab for you which is important when it rains.

We stayed at the AKA - UN for 2 weeks in May and our stay was most comfortable. The rooms are exactly as shown in the photographs - the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is good-sized with all new steel appliances (not that it matters, except for the feel-good factor) and bathroom is average sized - the way most Manhattan homes are. Great location, in a pretty residential street, great eateries around, a convenient walk to Grand Central station and a 20 minute walk to Times Square (if as a tourist, it interests you!) The lobby is bright and cheery and the staff polite and ready to help. After having checked in we had a bit of an issue about the room overlooking a back - building and upon request, they did manage to shift us to a room facing the street. (The back side building looks like a dungeon and truly depressing to look at) Most rooms come with a small balcony, a treat in this high-rise city! The furniture in the living room is a little dated (with a TV, not LCD enclosed in a wooden cabinet). Other than that, there is adequate closet space and a mini-safe too. The house-keeping does a good job. Breakfast consisting of some croissants and yogurt is just enough for a quick, small bite. Can't make a meal of it. The Comfort Diner is a great breakfast place in the adjacent street. Down the road you will also find a great German eating place, Le Pain Quotidienne, a Turkish cafe and many more - all within a 2 minute walk. Avoid the Italian eatery in the same lane, its got the grumpiest and rudest staff that we came across in our 2 week stay. "Amish" is a great food store in the adjoining street. To conclude - great rooms, attentive house-keeping, helpful staff and a great location is what makes AKA - UN stand out. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: Please ask for the rooms facing the street. The back-side rooms overlook a rather dungeon looking de...

I recently had an extended stay here for several weeks on business. This is very convieniently locatedin in midtown Manhattan. The views on the higher floos are nice and the service was very accomodating! The staff were all quite friendly and try to accomodate special requests as best they can. As it is an extended stay hotel, they dont serve food, but can point you in the direction to get whatever you might want. If you are looking for a minimal frills, friendly place to stay when you arent working, then the AKA United Nations will fit the bill just fine!

If you're going to be in NYC for more than a few days you should consider the AKA Hotel. Clean, friendly staff, maid service, centrally located (United Nations), with fantastic views -- the staff knows how to make you feel right at home. Free washer/dryer, a gym, dry cleaning service, food downstairs in the morning, coffee, a business center and an outdoor patio -- what else do you need? Cabs come by the front door every few seconds, the bus is at the end of the block, several stores and a Starbucks are within a block. First rate, clean, comfortable and an overall superb experience. The bed was extremely comfortable -- you won't find that in a run of the mill hotel.

I booked the hotel on line and was amazed when we arrived how beautiful it was. The staff was excellent. The location was perfect and we were able to see everything we went for. The view from our room was breathtaking . I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view, New York at night is something you shouldn't miss.
