Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

“very disapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

We were looking forward to eating here, 5 adults so it was a decent bill. we all ordered starters and I had smoked Idaho brook trout with horseradish cream. the trout was really nice but the horseradish cream was just cream with a bit of horseradish from a jar, rubbish. Others had the crab starter which was not fresh but frozen and really watery as frozen crab can be. not very good at all. My wife had a seafood platter and she enjoyed that. For mains I had the sea bass, it came with over cooked ruby chard. the sea bass was farmed it hadn't been pin boned. I know it’s not difficult and i don’t mind the odd bone but for what they charged they needed to do it right. The food was just put on a plate like you mum would do, no discernible presentation. all in all just not very good. The other meals were a similar shambles of missing the mark. The waiter was friendly and attentive but hey! He's working for his 15% tip.

Would not go back....ever.

“Dinner was Delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

We had a short wait, as it was a Saturday night and very busy. The food was excellent. Our table ordered oysters, shrimp and calamari. No one went away hungry!

“Go for the Oysters!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

The Grand Central Oyster Bar is a very old and famous place that is definitely worth a visit. At our last visit we sat at the counter which was great as the service is super fast, and it is always fun to observe the diners around you enjoying their dishes. You can also observe the men at the oyster bar opening all those fresh oysters…..

My sister loves her Florida Stone Crab Claws, and this is one of the few places in New York you can get them. I always get a plate of oysters which are fresh and delicious. I would avoid the "oyster platter" offered on the menu, and instead pick the type you like the best, or ask if you are not sure. The fish portions are very generous, the menu is very extensive and it is always hard to choose a favorite dish. I always feel that eating a meal at the Oyster Bar is a special experience, if you are visiting New York and you like seafood, please visit this historic and wonderful restaurant.

“Unforgettable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

When a good friend of mine, on learning we were visiting New York, told me the best seafood he'd ever had was at a restaurant beneath Grand Central Station I was somewhat skeptical but took the time to follow up on the recommendation. I'm so glad I did.

What a setting. A restaurant of cavernous proportions beneath tiled vaulted ceilings below the station.

The noise from the masses of people enjoying time together and good food reverberates around the place making the atmosphere quite amazing. Vibrant noise of epic proportions.

We went for lunch, were seated immediately despite how busy the place was. Our waiter was attentive, efficient and on point every step of the way.

The food was equal to the setting - chowder was tremendous and the main courses from the daily specials superb.

So do I agree with my friends recommendation and view of the Grand Central Oyster Bar ? Absolutely !

“Stunning location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

We had to come here: it's a unique place. The station interior is beautiful and cathedral-like. Inside the Oyster Bar the first thing you notice is the amazing ceiling. I was surprised to get a table so easily as it was almost full. The food was good but not great, which was slightly disappointing, but who cares when you're in a venue like this.
