Description: JoJo offers relaxed yet elegant dining on two floors of a quaint, turn-of-the-century brownstone on the Upper East Side. The first of Jean-Georges’ restaurants in New York City, this neighborhood gem opened in 1991 to rave reviews. It was voted best new restaurant of the year by Esquire magazine and has retained its three-star status from the New York Times for 21 years. Regarding the name, JoJo was Chef Jean-Georges’ nickname as a young boy. Jojo is a hospitable setting for a casual dinner, special occasion, or private party. Guests can feel comfortable in jeans or in evening attire. The contemporary French menu still features some well-loved original dishes, including the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake.

“Delicious”

Quaint small restaurant in a townhouse. Wonderful food. I ordered the vegetable prix fix and it was delicious. Our friends ordered the Salmon and it was cooked to perfectly. We'll definitely be back.

“Excellent Restaurant Week Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

I'm usually pessimistic about restaurant week specials but Jo Jo's was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely - very adult! Its in a brownstone building and has a series of small rooms which makes for a quiet and intimate setting. The menu was limited but everything was terrific, the food, service and am iance. Would definitely go back. Its quiet and on Open Table

“Shame On You Jean George Vongerichten”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

I don't think I've ever been this disappointed in a fine dining restaurant. Our experience was so awful, I"m still shaking my head. First of all, it was the hottest day in NYC. A/C was not working well and everyone was uncomfortable. We were there for 1 hour and 10 minutes before our first course was served. 4 out of 6 people were served drinks and then the waitress went to another table to take their order before getting us the rest of our drinks. After 5 minutes, we had a bus boy go to the bar to retrieve the remaining 2 drinks. Water glasses were empty most of the meal. Wine was poured for only half the table and taken away. We had to call the server back. Worst yet, the plates were HANDED to some of us, not placed on the table. My local diner knows better. It was so bad, we just started to laugh and make the best of it. In reality, our experience was far from funny. Poor management, which starts at the very top. Even though the food was excellent, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant until serious changes are made.

“Terrific Neighborhood Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

First Jean Georges restaurant and still terrific. We only will eat upstairs as it's more comfortable. Food is terrific. Staff great. They really get it. I normally have soup and then chicken......or salmon.

“Good food in a romantic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

Went there 2 weeks ago during the restaurant week. Because of the mixed reviews and the fact that we could reserve a table quite easily, we didn't have much expectation. Surprisingly, it was quite a pleasant experience--the bar is tiny, literally right next to the door. We were seated upstairs, with a view of the windows of the townhouse--very romantic. The food was solid, my hubby ordered a la carte, heirloom tomatoes and duck breast, I had the restaurant menu--summer squash salad and salmon, all are delicious and high quality ingredient. The duck breast was particularly good. The tomato salad could use more olive oil, but less vinegar. The service was good, attentive, not intrusive and without attitudes, we ordered a bottle of wine and sparkling water. Young couples sitting next to us ordered from the restaurant week menu, some of them didn't order drinks, but they were treated the same, very nice service. I think that is how a restaurant should be. Unfortunately, we had a slightly different experience at Nougatine recently.
