“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This visit was for dinner and it surpassed my first time when I only had lunch. The place is exciting, the service was impressive. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. We started with a few cheese samples; delicious!!! I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection, the best lamb dish every eaten, my companion had the stripped bass; again fabulous. We shared an excellent bottle of wine, recommended by our waiter. The place was hopping but we were not rushed in any way. Would recommended for everyone, go and enjoy this magnificent restaurant in the heart of the village. Also, not very expensive....

“Obsessed with Jonathan Waxman!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

The man is seriously a genius. The menu at Barbuto is hands down one of the best I've ever experienced. I booked the private chef's table for my birthday and got an up close view at all the action - I can personally attest to the amount of care and attention that goes into their food. Some suggestions: the pollo au forno, the lamb ragu over polenta (its seasonal) and the bolognese. The ambiance is also so cozy and the restaurant's location makes you feel almost like you're in some tucked away, hidden spot in NYC.

“Great service and food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We had an impromptu work dinner following an event. The evening was a delight as the company was great, but more importantly, the food, setting and service added much to the experience. The seating is tight, but that is part of the downtown vibe. We were lucky enough to get a corner table. The weather was rainy so the windows/garage doors could not be opened.

The menu is designed daily with what is prepared. The front of house hostess, Amelia, deserves a special mention as she selected the wine for us and it paired nicely with the variety of lamb, chicken, and fish that each of us ordered. The special chicken, pollo al forno was indeed delicious so it's a must to try on the first visit. It is generally on the menu I believe. However, the lamb was exceptional and not always an easy find to be prepared properly.
If you're downtown or mid-town it is worth it for a visit.

“Really? Not Worth It.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

In a city graced with excellent Italian restaurants from some of the best chefs as well as family style casual eateries, the hype surrounding this restaurant is astounding. To be fair, people were jammed inside, at the bar, and waiting for tables which means that someone thinks it good enough. However, the service was slack, the ambiance nonexistent, and the food good but nothing to get excited about. The crowded bar and hard surfaces made the noise level extreme requiring everyone to shout to be heard which only added to the problem, even for the tables outside. The reviews I read said that the chef Waxman was always moving through the restaurant checking on the food and customers. Didn't see anyone. Some dishes were quite good while others were seriously lacking. Our crude salad of raw shaved asparagus had promise but was under dressed and lacking in flavor. My grouper was very good while my husband's bolognese was just o.k. Our friends had similar issues - the flounder was good but the squid pasta downright bad - not enough squid and way too much chorizo on the wrong pasta noodle. While the prices are average for NY, I'd say that you can do much better unless you just want to say you were there.

“Delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

It was my second trip to barbuto and just as memorable! The chicken is as good as I remember and true to all the reviews. With the garage doors open, it's a great spot on a summer evening.
