I went to Alice's for the 2nd time today, hoping that the first time was a fluke (really wanted to change my opinion about them with a second chance). I was sadly wrong on that. This is a place that discriminates and is rude to customers as they arrive. The first time I went, I was with a small group and they seated TONS of other parties ahead of us - we waited over 2 1/2 hours (if it were up to me I would have gone someplace else - NYC is certainly not lacking for quality lunch/brunch spots), but I deferred to the group I was with. One of the women I was with has a disability and had a very hard time standing for a long period of time like that. When I went in multiple times to check on what the latest estimate was, I kept getting "just a few more minutes". They have a sign on their door stating there is a maximum time limit on tables on the weekends due to the high traffic, yet clearly that was NOT being enforced. Today I arrived with 1 friend - there were a number of empty tables yet they would not seat us. A party of 4 came in after we had waited for about 20 minutes and they arranged a table for them almost immediately - I heard the woman say to the hostess that they had tickets for a show - so did we! When I questioned the hostess on this, she claimed it was because they were a party of 4 and she refused to seat 2 people at a table any larger than a postage stamp. When I reminded the hostess that she told a party of 4 who came in at the same time as we did that there would be a close to 2 hour wait, she gave me a pathetic excuse and went on her way. When we were seated at that tiny aforementioned table, the items my friend and I ordered (it was just a tea service - not exactly a feast) wouldn't even fit on the table so they COMBINED our food on to the SAME plate! The experience of a full tea is a fun thing to do, but when you deal with rudeness and nasty people in a customer service based industry, it puts a very nasty taste in your mouth which no scone, no matter how good, can take away! I strongly considered calling the management to place a complaint, but given how poorly they obviously train their employees, I would doubt they'd care. Given that many people read reviews on travel sites, I decided this was the way to go. Disgusting and pathetic Alice's - you should be ashamed!
