“Never let the fluff supersede quality...but a fun experience!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We looked forward for weeks to our dinner for my birthday at Eleven Madison Park. The reception was flawless and we were greeted by a brief Happy Birthday Card. The initial server was quick speaking and not very warm. Every other server had a smile and cound not do more to please. It was a four hour eating fest and while the breadth of food was wonderful, it was a huge mistake to not have a printed menu to see BEFORE or during the meal. Too often a server tried to convey the wonderful variety of ingredients without pointing out on the plate which ingredient was which and running away so fast as to not be able to digest the ingredients he/she described. With a menu before ( a la Benu in SF) we could read and enjoy in anticipation of the next course. The Clam Bake, Carrot Tartare, Beef dish and Foie Gras ( seared better than Terrine) was all major hits. The lobster was undercooked and each of the last five dishes were wonderful in presentation and all disappointing in taste. The bakery/ dessert chef needs to try less to be original and more to deliver wonderful taste. We also noted that the pair next to us was greeted by ? the manager and took a "time out" at the bar on the house. When you pay $500+ for two for dinner, you want to be that person who is made to feel that special, not the pair next to the guy getting special treatment. Everyone should get special treatment.

It was in fact memorable but my wife and I both felt the food at Modern and Bouley outshone this restaurant. But given the presentations,we did find it worth out time and palate. We would be more inclined given the food quality to dine here next time on someone else's credit card. Just our opinion. Like another reviewer, we agree that they need to try less and tone down the fluff and focus more on great food quality.

Overall, a favorable romantic, experience with original presentations, generally informative servers and a bit inconsistent food quality leaving us with the feeling that they were trying too hard especially in regard to the dessert dishes. We grade it an "A-"

“Amazing!!! Thank you!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We manage to get a table during our visit to NYC. We had the tasting menu with the matching wine and it was the most amazing dining experience ever! Yes, it's pricey but it's definitely worth the price tag. Ended up tipping 2 staff who have been wonderful throughout the night. We will definitely visit again next time.

“Service unlike anything I've ever known!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

This review is well overdue, but here it is nonetheless. The wait staff was amazing the sommelier was absolutely lovely and patient (we had lots of questions and chatted him up ALOT) and the food was once-in-a-lifetime-delicious. The experience was everything that I wanted it to be, coming from Wyoming and having one night to plan the ultimate "foodie" experience...this was it. They also took us back and let us meet the chef, and see the kitchen. Our reservation was late, so it was pretty quiet back there, but still so appreciated. Also, the restaurant aided my boyfriend in his proposal to me there! :-O So surprising and lovely. If/when we ever make it back to NYC, we will definitely make it a point to go back. Worth every dollar. :)

“The best restaurant in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Well, let me start by saying, with no offense intended, that the people rating EMP as a never again or a waste of money place, have zero idea of that a high end, modern, sofisticated and top notch restaurant is nowadays, much less of what it takes to make a tasting menu like this. Hands down EMP is the best restaurant in NYC and will year by year climb the Pellegrino World's Top 50 list, currently number 10. Dining here is an experience, from start to finish. Service is not stiff, friendly and extremely attentive under a relaxed, yet formal atmosphere. Have tried Per Se, Le Bernardin and Daniel, and still go back to EMP. Congratulations to Chef Humm and his team

“Rated number One”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Must make reservations at least one month in advance. I have been warned dont have those reservations its not easy to get into for a prime dinning time. Put on your calendar for special events. proposals, anniversarys and special occations. Romantic, and Romance go hand in hand here at this one special NY restauant and the food."
