“Students in the kitchen and delicious food in the plates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Went there for brunch with friends during our visit to NYC and we had the set brunch menu for 24$. Not cheap but the service was excellent, staff was lovely and food was delicious. Highly recommended.

“Not cheap, but good value for what you get”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

This is a restaurant associated w/ the French Culinary Institute & has dishes made by students along w/ the instructors.
First, the bad. No lunch seating after 2PM when I had lunch (multiple people walked in & were turned away. Limited Menu-it's a limited prix fixe type of menu. Many of the lunch & dinner dishes overlap. Not cheap (though I think a good value for what you get).
This is one of only 2 places I ate at more than once during my last trip. It was conveniently located near my hotel (Broadway & Canal), but also good food. Service is very good. Very helpful & accommodating. Attentive w/o being hovering. I didn't ask for any, but ask for some free bread to take home. Baguette is pretty good. The menu is a bit limited (prix fixe) & some of the lunch & dinner dishes overlap (I went once for lunch, once for dinner), though there is enough variety that you don't necessarily have to try the same thing if you visit more than once. It is by no means cheap budget dining, but considering it is French fine dining in Manhattan, it is a great value for what you get. Everything I had, food & beverages, were delicious & well paired. It has a nice atmosphere. Though it is nice fine dining quality & you will likely see some diners dressed up, I came in very casual, some others diners are very casual, & there was no snobbish picky raising elitist vibe. Presentation is nice, but not unnecessarily over the top like a stacked building or Jackson Pollack painting on the table. When casually asking about the student rotation, the host offered & gave me a nice little tour. I met Jacques Pepin while I was having lunch. Nice old guy.

“A good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We have been here several times but it's been a few years since our last visit. Make reservations, we tried to eat here while in the neighborhood several times over the years but they were always booked solid. This restaurant is one that is run by students and professionals. The students stop cooking at certain times and the professionals take over so read up and see what the times are if it matters to you. No matter to me, they are all cooking some very tasty, very decent, price fixed meals. I think it was $38 last visit. The service is very good, you can tell which are the new students but it doesn't make it a bad experience at all. The menu is always changing which can keep people coming back and makes the teaching experience more well rounded. Eat here, you won't be disappointed. We will be back.

“Great gastronomical experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Every 3 weeks the menu changes, so it would be difficult to suggest any order, but thew good thing is that they're always improving and inovating with nice tasteful combinations that made my experience so great. For a fixed price, you'll have an appetizer a main course and a dessert (3 options each), everything prepared by the students.
