“Great food, fun atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We flew from Glasgow dumped our bags and headed straight out to a new york saturday night stopping in here for dinner. It was super friendly, welcoming from the outside and had a relaxed canteen feel inside. Food was excellent and service friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend it.

“Great food, casual atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We grabbed a late lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. There were four of us. It's a cute place with yummy food! We each got a beer. While we were there Happy Hour started so the next round was cheaper! I had a salad with cheese, nuts, avocado and a blood orange vinaigrette. It was fresh and delicious! My fiance got the fish tacos, my brother got the enchiladas, and his girlfriend got a salad. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It was pretty authentic Mexican food. The staff was friendly and attentive. The bathrooms were the only problem. They were way in the back (you had to walk through the kitchen) and it was tight. That's a minor issue though. Overall, we would go back again. Great spot to grab lunch!

“This is terrible Mexican food...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I do not know why anyone would give this place good food reviews. The service was great, but the food is comprised of canned sauces, frozen burritos, nothing-but-mix margaritas. Just gross. And expensive for what you're getting. We tried the other location when we first moved here July 2012 and thought it was terrible. Then, our friends all met up at this location on Hudson last weekend and it was already too late before we realized it was the same terrible place. Please find another venue if you're craving good Mexican food and drinks: Ofrenda (West Village), La Palapa (East Village), Taqueria LES (Lower East Side), etc.

Jalapeno margarita is SO briny. We asked for a replacement b/c it was so salty and the waitress said it is because they use the jalapeno juice from the jarred jalapenos. Gross! 1. Drinks should taste good. 2. A real jalapeno margarita is made with FRESH jalapenos. Just nasty. Oh, and they charged us for both - jalapeno $11 and regular $9. Super.

“There are more than Two Hot Tamales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Tiny, storefront sized place (seats maybe twenty at tables, five at a counter) with dishes that are head and shoulders above what you find at the majority of NYC's Mexican restaurants, whether big or small. Enormous care appears to be taken with preparation, everything cooked to order, so don't expect "fast" food either in pacing or quality. On our first visit, we had a chile relleno that was among the best we've ever had in NYC (both of us reared in the South West on Mexican food), a fish-taco special with a wonderfully fiery habanero sauce, excellent guacamole (that tasted, as it should, primarily of avocado), and perfectly cooked rice and black beans. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and informal. We arrived at about 5:15pm and most tables were free. By the time we left, roughly an hour later, it was standing-room only. So you might want to avoid prime dining hours if you're on a tight schedule. We can't wait to go back.

“Delicious soup, cozy atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

I was in the mood for something light, so I had a spicy broth with fresh avocado and corn in it, and some grilled corn on the cob. The beer selection was good and sitting along the wall with the heater on under my seat, was super cozy and fun.
