I had modest expectations for this place, given that it's in the financial district and it's surrounded by similar "Irish pubs" with much the same atmosphere and menu choices. I'd say my expectations were met: the ambience, food, and service were pretty basic. We were seated in the bar, but there appears to be a restaurant area toward the back. After a look at the menu, we stuck with pub food options: a burger and fish and chips. Both were serviceable, but not memorable in any way. Our server was friendly, but frazzled--he was at the end of a long shift, and it showed. A bottle of imported Irish cider was priced the same as a draft, which was a pleasant surprise.
In the end, Maguire's felt a bit like a small-scale Applebee's, which is not a terrible thing, but nothing to go out of your way for. I think I'll try the gastropub around the corner next time.
