DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLICIT WITH RACISM!
I met my family here for a birthday dinner a few weeks ago. I was stunned to be seated upstairs facing a glass cabinet with different knick knacks. One was a tin with a phenomenally racist image on it. REALLY OFFENSIVE. At the end of the meal, my niece asked the Maitre D' about it. He asked, "is it really offensive, or are you just too sensitive?" What a question! Then he said, "Oh, we had one here tonight!" (meaning someone African American.) What a response! Does he think it is not offensive also to white people? What planet are these folks on? Why is that acceptable? Do their guests not notice?

I am sincerely sorry for the embarrasing & offensive situation that occured at my restaurant while you and your guest were celebrating your Birthday. The knic knac you are refering to is an antique tin of "Banania", a Fench company that made a beverage consisting of chocolate and banana flour. This beverage was very popular in France and my husband being from Bordeaux has very fond memories of it. When I came in later that evening, my Maitre d' explained the situation, I immediately removed the tins, I do not want ot be offensive to anyone. My husband and I have been in business here for 16 years and are not racist and appologize for appearing so. The "Banania" tins have been in that cabinet for 12 years and no one has either noticed or commented. As for my Maitre d', I appologize for his comments and behavior. I do know he is not racist, but I also know under a tense situation and his attempt to diffuse, he can say things that are off. Please accept my appology for ruining what should have been a happy occasion. Lottie
