Just got back from lunch at Yeah Shanghai Deluxe Restaurant. We are visiting the city and were checking out China Town. We chose the restaurant because, while it has very little curb appeal, we saw a free wifi sign on the window and both needed to use the bathroom. While browsing the menu on the outside window, a lady came out and was quite abrupt with us insisting we come in. The prices seemed steep compared to other restaurants around but we were desperate. We needed the wifi to help us plan and map out the rest of our day. We were seated in a small, cramped table between two other couples which was odd since the restaurant was 3/4 empty.
Barely 3 words were said to us the entire time. After we placed our order we were forgotten about, until of course, it was time to pay. Once we were seated and settled we inquired about the wifi (as to which one belonged to the restaurant and the password). The man told us he would find out. He never came back. 15 minutes later we asked another lady who typed in the password for us. Incorrect password - had to chase her down to reenter it. By this time we were pretty much done our meal (which was nothing to write home about). No one came by to see how we were doing, or whether we liked the food. As another reviewer wrote, we weren't asked whether we were done, a bill was just put on the table.
We don't eat Chinese food often, and the menu didn't have meals that we are accustomed to at Chinese restaurants in Canada, I think this was obvious when ordering. Turns out, my boyfriend and I ordered the same dish (under two different names). When the food came out we weren't happy as we intended on sharing everything and both ended up disliking the dish. We thought it would have been kind if the man taking our order clarified this. Needless to say, lots of food was wasted and we reluctantly paid the bill and left.
Would not recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting to experience an authentic Chinese restaurant in China town. Staff are unfriendly and service is terrible. We came here on the Chinese New Years Eve day thinking it would be a fun experience and it was anything but.
