Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

“So good we went twice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

Family style Italian dining...the food is magnificent. The service is terrific. Reservations are a good idea to avoid a wait. A word to the wise...you can get free refills on drinks, but if they offer you a pitcher, DECLINE IT! They charge for every pitcher.

“Pasta Amore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

I have eaten at two location in NYC. Both meals were the absolute best Italian I have ever had. Carine is a family style, boisterous restaurant. A serving of food will feed 3 to 4 people. The meal is A LA Cart. This is not an inexpensive venture, but a gastronomic adventure. The service is triple A, quick, but you are never rushed through a meal. The servers are accommodating and friendly. This is a restaurant where you will need to call a month in advance for either location to obtain a reservation. You can visit the Theater district or the Upper West side.

“Decent food, Great Price, Deafening Decibels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

I ended up going to Carmines twice in one week, once on business, once with family. This is italian comfort food family style and the prices are exceptional as long as you have at least 4 people. With 6 people and 2 bottles of wine it was $42 a person. The Carmine salad and fried zucchini was outstanding. The spaghetti was also good. The chicken parmesan was chintzy -- about 1/4 of the volume served at Carmines in Las Vegas. The wine was a good price for Napa vintages. But this place is one where you HAVE TO SHOUT AT EVERYONE AT YOUR TABLE TO BE HEARD. There are ways to fix this but if you actually want to talk to your friends or family, go somewhere else. You can only hear the person right next to you.

“Family style dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

One dish serves two people. I highly recommend the chicken marsala. It is excellent. You get a nice bread basket before the meal. Service is good. Get a reservation about 1.5 hours before your show time.

“An Excellent Meal and Great Service!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Huge portions of Italian favorites. We LOVED the Chicken Parm! All items are served family style so I would make sure you have at least 3 people with you. The service was excellent (thanks Raheim!!!). It's a very lively atmosphere, some might think it's loud, but we enjoyed it! I prefer this location to the one in Times Square.
