Description: The last of its kind near 42nd St., Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem. A tribute to legendary Josephine Baker, this Parisian bistro with live music and tantalizing menu exudes theatrical panache. One of New York's most romantic restaurants, a bit of Montmartre on 42nd St., the landmark jewel sparkles with an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. The eclectic menu reinvents the traditional cuisine of the French bistro in an explosion of tantalizing flavor. Jean-Claude and Jarry Baker are your warm and welcoming hosts who treat you as family whether you come before the show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar. Chez Josephine draws a crowd unlike any other in New York as food critic Bryan Miller noted when he wrote: The dining room is a confluence of the famous and the fashionable, the infamous and unsung-with every shade of skin on earth and indeed you feelthe magic of Chez Josephine.

“You must try this restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Each time we visit NYC we make sure to have dinner at Chez. This place is fabulous! Warm, welcoming, cozy, fabulous live music, wonderful service, and excellent food! The lobster bisque is a must-order item. Unbelievable delicious. The steaks are perfectly grilled. The scallops (when on special) are juicy and sweet. The owner, Jean Claude, is a lovely, gracious host who always makes you feel special. Don't leave NYC without a romantic dinner at Chez Josephine!

“Former New Yorker Always Returns”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We always return to Chez Josephine when we visit New York. After living in the City and eating in lots of restaurants, we so value the service, music, romance. I love the food. Always a less expensive as well as more expensive wine is recommended. And the Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter tunes from the piano... Bliss.

“Ok, not what I was expecting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

We were really looking forward to our dinner at this restaurant as the reviews were all great. The location is perfect and the restaurant is super cute. We had really bad service. It took the waiter over 25 minutes to come to our table and take our intial order and then we waited over an hour for our food. I'm not sure what happened as everyone around us had their meal, but no one apologized or even ackowledged that we waited so long. The food was OK, definitely overpriced and not as good as the other restaurants we visited while in NYC.

“Lovely, warm, inviting, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

An attractive, romantic setting at Chez Josephine, piano music playing in the background on a busy Friday night, warm welcome, good service. I would happily go there again but for the unexciting food, alas. My Beef Wellington was coated in very soggy pastry and tasted more like pot roast than tenderloin, although a slice of foie gras atop helped. Another guest's crisped oysters had a less-than-crispy coating--nothing delicate about it. Alas, an uptick in food quality would make this place wonderful.

“Among the best in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

not only will you meet the son (owner) of the legendary Josephine Baker who is there most nights, but the food is incredible...from basic (spaghetti..one of Josephine's faves) to sophisticated (escargot) and reasonably priced. They'll get you out in time for theatre by asking what show you are going to see. i go every time i am in NYC...
