“Fab only hotel to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Love this hotel have stay many times.ths staff are helpful, willing too help if you have a problem big or small.went for my birthday they sent a cake and flowers to my room.
Wonderful I have never had a problem.
Rooms clean bedding very nice.all in all no faults what so ever.fab location .the flowers in the lobby are always wonderful.
This hotel has had many, many changes over the years I just hope it does not end up like the plaza which now has no charm whatsoever ever.

Room Tip: Check what kind of room you have been given before hand if not happy tell them ,before you travel

We booked this hotel well in advance, almost 5 months before our visit. Fortunately, we have not cancelled our booking as we came across some very negative reports. The first day we were in the 24th floor and an air-conditioning unit outside the window in the night was very noisy. Next day we were relocated to the 36th floor and we were given a discount for this relocation! We had a big and well organized suite facing the Central Park with very good view!

The location for us was the best, near to everything we wanted. The Hotel is old of course, but beautiful and well preserved. We like the service, the bar at the South Gate and found the concierge very helpful. We will consider coming back to the same Hotel next time we come to NY if we deiced to be near to the Central Park again.

The staff was available and helpful when needed. The lobby is nice. The adjacent restaurant was being renovated but still open while we were there. The room was lacking in quality. Given the price and the photos on the website, I was expecting something of a Ritz Carlton quality and its just not that caliber. The location is great though.

I spent three nights at this hotel during a short visit to New York. It was a great experience. The check in was polite, efficient and welcoming. My room had the most amazing views of Central Park. Room service was delivered on time, food was high quality and the rooms were carefully and efficiently cleaned by very polite and considerate people.
The building has lovely echoes of the past with Art Deco touches including the amazing lift doors.
The concierge was excellent and very responsive and helped us sort out cars and drivers for various trips. I highly recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed !

If you are expecting Marriott excellence, stay at the Marquis or the Fairfield. If you are expecting to be treated fairly & with courtesy, go elsewhere.
If you are expecting comfort and/or a concierge lounge, wrong place. The rooms ate small and cramped. No closet space for two guests. No where to stow luggage. Dirty carpets and the staff are rude and could care less if you are unconvinced. I have stayed in the finest JW across the globe and this property is bound to bring shame the the brand name.

Right across from Central Park! Loved the location. It is now a JW Marriott property and they are still working on the lounge for elite members but they did give me a room upgrade. Rooms with beautiful views available. Bar was very nice. Lobby flowers were beautiful. Room was clean and comfortable. All staff was friendly. Great dinner recommendation from the concierge, Trattoria Dell'Arte. Loved it and it was within walking distance!

Love the Essex House on Central Park South, especially now as a Marriott property. Great location just a few steps away from Columbus Circle and the Time Warner Center, a few blocks away from Fifth Avenue Shopping, and right across the street from the best parts of Central Park. Beautiful rooms, many with spectacular views, terrific dining, including our favorite breakfast down the block at SaraBeth's. Small but adequate fitness facility, steam room, and sauna. Can simply walk to the Broadway shows or stroll over to Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. Elegance, class, location, the Essex House has it all!

Room Tip: Splurge for a Central Park view!
