“Good Affordable Ukranian in East Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

Veselka is always good - but it used to be better. It is still a good option in the E Village where old haunts are rapidly disappearing and prices rising. It has nice seating outside and a menu with good variety. The soups are particularly good. I had the meatballs. It was a generous portion and nicely done. The mashed potatoes & veggies could have been better. The lentil soup was perfect.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

Went in for dinner. Good menu choice. Plenty of seating and setvice wirh a smile.
I had lovely meatballs, mash and gravy. Meals are really reasonable as are the drink prices.

All in all a good place for a hearty meal in a nice wee restaurant !!

“Breakfast fusion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

Drawn here by the rather quirky menu - a tasty fusion of American and Ukranian fayre. The cooked breakfast consisted of a variation of sausage, fried egg and hash browns - but at Veselka it's Kiełbasa (Ukrainian sausage), fried eggs and potato pancake. The bread options were great - tasty rye bread and 7 grain brown bread - and the food was complemented by fresh orange juice and a fine mug of coffee. Had time allowed we would have returned to sample the lunch or dinner menu but that will have to wait for another visit.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

This was our first experience having Ukrainian food. We stopped there our first night in NYC, and we had the cold beet borscht, stuffed cabbage, sauerkraut, and potato and meat perogies. What a wonderful experience. I normally do not like sauerkraut, but this was best I have ever tasted. After that first experience, we subsequently went back there for breakfast and two more dinners during our two weeks in NYC. This restaurant is always busy, and what is so great about the place is it is open 24 hours!!!
