This place was truly first rate on multiple levels. My fiance and I came through for lunch, and were excited to see a variety of multiple course (2-3 courses) options in a mix-n-match fashion all under $15 a person. I would not describe the portions as small, but they certainly were not generous. The Northern Indian option included 2 courses and ran $12. Overall It is a smaller restaurant with a comfortable and intimate feel. The service was friendly, accommodating, and helpful, and the food came out with fantastic timing (not too much time between courses, yet not so quickly as to feel rushed. The presentation was also superb. Yet, most importantly, we agreed without question it was the best Indian food we've ever had.
The samosas were our personal favorite. A set of 3 ran $9 (1 potato, 1 lamb, and 1 chicken).
I loved my lamb vindaloo. It had just the right amount of spice.
They also have fantastic freshly made "smoothies" (called lassi). The rose was great; other customers were ordering the mango ones fairly frequently.
We walked here from Grand Central Station because we were only in New York for a few hours before a flight. It took about 15 minutes with luggage but was certainly well worth it.
