“This is a decent restaurant but it's reputation is much greater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

I really like the Rissoto. The prices are very expensive for the portions. The staff dotes on you and treats you well. The oil for the bread had an awful aftertaste. For the price it is very highly overrated but if you can afford it And like seafood give it a try.

“Seafood Lover's Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

We dined with friends that we don't often see and had a leisurely dinner at Oceana. The ambience is very upscale and comfortable. The wait staff was friendly and did not rush us. My husband and I enjoyed seafood Paella for two. Delicious! I would go back the next time we are in NY! It is expensive.

“Wonderful food and great atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

This is a very nice restaurant for a full dinner before going to a broadway show or other evening event. It is very expensive but its midtown Manhattan after all. We ordered from the theater menu which is more reasonable and the food was outstanding. Go with the option to have wine included as selected by the sommelier. You end up getting two different small glasses of wine with the meal and a nice port with dessert. Good service and a warm atmosphere.

“other NY chef who doesn't know to cook fish...but with a good raw bar.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

I'm starting to think that maybe I'm too demanding in fish dishes, but since I came to live to NY 1 year and half ago, still looking for an affordable reasonable restaurant(far from the 3stars ones), where you can enjoy a well prepared fish dish. Oceana is not this place. Decent good raw material lost their flavor because of the unnecessary mix receipts. The raw bar was really nice, next time(if there's any) I will stop there for a good wine glass +, ruling out the restaurant.
Service really poor, we have to ask the waiter twice to fill up the wine glass, also stop him a couple of times to remove unfinished course...

“Expensive but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

This is just a short review since I am not a seafood guy, but had a lunch meeting here the other day so I can't really comment on the main aspect of this restaurant.

The thing I like about this place is that, at most seafood places I have been to, they had maybe one or two choices for non seafood eaters, but here, they had sirloin, filet mignon, a burger, amish chicken and sides such as fries.

The two gentlemen I was with ordered the lobster sandwich and the Salomn burger. The place does not seem to do any substitues but the one request made from our table was to replace the salmon with a different fish on the burger, so it might have been to big of request. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin. Each of us agreed the food was delicious.

The atomosphere was very nice. Clean, cool, but busy and a bit loud. We did go during the lunch rush which was full of business people grabbing lunch or doing the same as us, having a lunch meeting so there was lots of chatter going on. The waiters were very nice and were always filling my water even if I had about a quarter cup left. They were a bit slow to get to us to order, but this may have been because they are use to the business crowd taking their time when looking at the menus/talking. It took about 15 minutes for our food to come out.

The only big con about this place, as expected (upscale seafood restaurant in NY) was the pricing. Of course it was going to be expensive, but the cheapest meal on the menu is a burger for $18. The cheapest side, if I recall would be the side of fries for $9. Our table got a side of Sautéed Mushrooms for $10 at the suggestion of the waiter, but the serving was barely big enough for one person, so be careful if you wish to spilt sides as the servings are very small.
