“Great service, beautiful decor, comfortable lighting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

I am always looking for a good Thai restaurant and in particular a well done Tom Yum Kai (Chicken Lemon Grass soup). We stumbled onto Jaiya to escape the cold wind of the ciy and was very impressed. The service is incredible and each request/offering made with a smile. Water glasses always full (but not in a too attentive, in your space way), food dished up for you, and if your drink is close to empty you will soon be asked if you want a new one. The food comes in Mild, Medium, and Hot. I like spicy food so requested a Medium spice (and was told by the waiter that Medium is really spicy and made sure I was still interested) on the Tom Yum Kai. The spice was a perfect Medium level. A nice heat in the mouth and lips not lingering for too long. The soup is enough for two people.
The lighting also was very comforting. Soft lighting (makes anyone look good) yet enough light to see the menu and see your food. Bathroom was clean and had low lighting as well..which I prefer instead of going from low lighting into bright light..kept with the flow of the restaurant.
The one other stand out feature was the decor. The big bell hanging from the ceiling is beautiful (used in the temples of Thailand) as well as the large Buddha statue lit at the far end of the dining area. Just beautiful. Overall, we will definitely return to Jaiya. About 13 blocks from Grand Central - nice walk.
This is a very good date place. Highly recommend it!

“Tasty, tasty ... Thai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012 via mobile

We had Drunken Noodles, Duck Curry and Green Curry .. All of which were nicely spiced and went well together as we tend to be communal eaters. Along with a glass of wine and lychee mimosa our tab came in with a tip at $74 -- which seemed good value by local standards. Nice ambiance and attentive wait staff. Gets two thumbs up from these Canadian diners.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2011

I will preface this review by saying this was the first time I went to a Thai restaurant. The friends I was with chose it. They like Thai food but had never been here. I am pretty open and will try anything.
The menu is such that you choose the type of meat or seafood or vegetable that you want. I chose the "drunken noodles" with shrimp. There are some entrees that come "as is" if this bothers you. The waiter was careful to tell me that if I ordered medium spicy, it would be very hot. I took his advice and ordered the mild and it was just right. It was a Saturday night when we went and it was very busy but I didn't feel like we had to wait too long for our food to come out. The servers all seemed to work as a team and I think they did a good job overall.

“Very authentic Thai food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

Very good food. Nice and spicy. Try the Tom Yum Goong, Shrimp in Lemon grass soup (1 portion is big enough for 2 people).

Trendy ambience however a bit too noisy at times which is the only negative about this establishment.

Be aware medium spicy : is VERY SPICY!!

Enjoy.
