This place has great history. Ask one your waiters and they will fill you in on the stories behind the pipes, and the law suit that was filed against them way back many years ago when it was a Gentlemen's club!
Keens is a popular restaurant so make sure you book a table in advance. It's always highly rated in TripAdvsor, and if you search "best steak in NY" then it comes up numerous times in articles about NYC. And deservedly so.
The food is incredible. The steak is cooked to perfection, and a fine piece of meat. We shared the Porterhouse for 2, and it was huge! We also had chips and mushrooms on the side which were great. Because we are piggies we also had pudding, but we didn't really need it, if anything we should have shared one, as they are also pretty generous on portion size!
The wines and cocktails are great and there is a good choice to suit everyone. The staff are knowledgable and so feel free to ask them questions about the meat, the history, the cooking process, anything.
The one thing that let this restaurant down for us was at the very end, after we had finished dessert and our plates had been cleared we were abandoned. No-one asked if we wanted anything else, it was impossible to catch their eye to pay the bill. After 30-40mins we managed to get the bill, and then it took another 10-15mins to actually be able to pay it. They didn't seem to care about payment. We almost felt we could have left without paying they were so slack on that front - maybe we should have, i guess we are too honest.
Don't let that part put you off though, the food really is great, and the staff other than the end part, were brilliant.
