After a tiring morning at the Museum of Modern Art, the family was looking for lunch and the opportunity to just sit down for a while. We left the museum and wandered along the streets until we found the Kasuhama branch at 43-45 West 55th Street, and we were delighted.
After a few years living in Tokyo, it is always a pleasure to find a genuine Japanese restaurant. The menu may appear extensive but is, in fact, fairly limited in a way that many of the best Japanese restaurants often are. We all sat down after a brief wait (a good sign) in a room filled with native Japanese (another good sign). We ordered quickly a range of meals and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them, I was particularly pleased with my shredded cabbage salad, topped with a dressing I have failed to find in my native England, as it meant I was eating raw vegetables for the first time in New York. This was more of a novelty than the food. The curry sauce was tasty in a way I remembered and the pork cutlet nice and succulent.
Overall, we were all content. The price for five people was reasonable. If they would only open a branch local to me in Devon, I would be very happy.
