Sure its in Times Square and a bit touristy but the BBQ here is great with lots to choose from. The beef brisket is awesome.

“You can smell the BBQ a block away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

Went with a large group this past weekend. Had a reservation and got our table right away. Restuarant was decorated for the holidays and playing holiday music - nice touch. Everyone enjoyed thier food, VERY large portions. Pulled Chicken and Pork were the biggest hits. Don't bother with an apps, too much food ont the main course. Only minor comment was the food was not as hot as you would like when it was served, but otherwise great. Service was very good. Restaurant is lound, which was great since we had younger kids. Nice that they have a kids menu too.

“Fine BBQ-From A Texan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We have visited Vigil's several times over the past few years, and we always enjoyed the meals we get. As mentioned below, the potions are very large, so you may want to consider splitting a meal, especially if you have children along with you. The appetizers are equally large, so beware of how much you end up ordering.

Coming from Texas, this BBQ is equal or better than what you can get there.

During the holidays, the crowds can be overwhelming, with a wait list of nearly 90 minutes. It may be best to get there earlier before the traditional dinner crowd (lets say 4:30-5:30p) and settle for an early meal. Since it is located in the heart of the theater district, the pre-show dinner crowd pack the place. Most broadway shows start at 8:00 pm, so the masses start arriving by 6:00-6:30pm. Our last experience during Christmas was a rush, having to make it to a show. The line at the bar was all but gone by 7:30p.

We did make a reservation with Open Table, and they tried to honor it. I'd suggest reservations ahead of time in one fashion or another (I like Open Table), but it is no guarantee. The front desk staff was polite, but you need to exercise a little "New Yorker pushiness" on them to see that you're seated on time.

All in all a fun place to eat.

“Right on Q”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

Virgil's is a place I've eaten at on just about every trip to New York. Given it's location, you' expect an overpriced tourist trap, but nothing could be further from the reality.
If you're on your own, sit at the bar and enjoy the beers, banter and food. If you're a family or group, book ahead or expect a wait.
The food is a kind of 'favourites of US barbeque' collection. Good brisket, fried chicken, ribs, you name it, it's there. All showing up with the ubiquitous corn bread and a couple of sides of you choice - recommend the smoke-house beans. Just superb.
Can't think of any reason why I would go again - highly recommended.

“So much food! Great BBQ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We loved it here, we wanted good BBQ food and we got it in abundance! Loads of food (as you'd expect) and really delicious. Waiting staff were super attentive as you'd expect in NYC, it's pricey but no more so than other restaurants in the city.
