“Not Bad for the East Coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

AFter having had a horrible one previously (check my other NYC review) I was pleasantly surprised to eat here. Of course it was a bit hectic and the staff was inconsistent with service (basically standard at most dim sum places) the food was hot, delicious, and without noticeable MSG, which is amazing for most Asian places. We begged for more eggplant but they gave the last order to another table! Our favorites were the tofu skin rolls and the barbecue pork rice rolls. The place was smaller than most other places I've been to and I liked that as well.

“Very Good Dim Sum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

After walking across Brooklyn bridge from DUMBO with four of our friends we arrived in Chinatown at Ping's famished. We had a 15 minute wait. An eternity when you're hungry. But it was well worth it. Our friends had never had dim sum. We enjoyed har gai, shui mais, pork meat balls, shrimp fun gung and sticky rice just to name a few. We also ordered the pan fried noodles with beef. They enjoyed all the dim sum and noodles. A fantastic meal. I think this is the last of the truly Cantonese eateries in Chinatown. Give them a try. Before they disappear.

“Food good but Service is not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

My family was on a vacation in NYC and decided to have dinner in Chinatown. We were advised of a certain restaurant from friends, but there was a line and the kids wanted to eat. Ping's was across the street and looked fine. We had a table of 8 and were seated quickly. Water was given, but it was luke warm. After a few minutes, someone did take our drink order. We had to flag our waiter down just to order some apps. Then we had to flag him down again just to order. He did not seem to understand our orders. When the food came, everything tasted very well, but two of the party didn't get exactly what they ordered. Our waiter was no where to be found, so we just ate what we had been given. When we needed our check, we just left and went to the front to pay without the bill. So to reiterate, the food tasted nice, but would definitely not return because of very poor service.

“Could use some quality improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We have always frequented Ping's when in NYC Chinatown including holding our New Years banquets there as well. The most recent visit was disappointing especially since we had friends here from China and wanted to take them to somewhere special. It was a busy Saturday evening and we ordered at least 8 dishes, (a mini banquet to honor our friends) some dishes were that we traditionally have ordered in the past. The crispy chicken was dry and tough. The sweet and sour pork chunks in a pineapple were deep fried and the sauce was syrupy sweet. There was a dish with jicama in it which was creative but sadly, the service and care that goes into the preparation needs serious improvement. The prices are way too high for the quality that the customer is getting. I hope that it will change for the better and be what it used to be.
