“Food great...place small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012 via mobile

I love Tapas food and whenever I am in NYC I try to go to a new place. This place was recommended to us and i would give it mixed reviews. The waiter was excellent. The food, although only cold Tapas was also great. The space however was too small to have an intimate conversation. You end up listening to conversations to the left and right of you.

“disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

Even though the name suggested that it was a bar, I had thought maybe it would be like most tapas bars in Spain. Wrong. They only have cold appetizers. Sure, the food was good and the hosue cava was also tasty, but the place was tiny and it's just not the kind of place where you want to stay for long and the food selection is also very small.

“Too crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

Great wine bar, great concept, but a tiny space, so it is always too crowded. It is no fun to squeeze in and be in the way all the time. The pan con tomate is to die for though, however you can have it at Casa Mono (next door), too, which unfortunately is not much less crowded either.

“Great Place for Wine and Tapas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

My spouse and I had drinks with friends at the Bar Jamon wine bar/ham bar adjacent to Casa Mono in mid-May 2011. We arrived around 4:00 pm and were lucky to secure seats at one of the two long tables (which probably each seat about 8 guests, either sitting or standing). The crowd ebbs and flows at this establishment, making it quite crowded at times before emptying. (Our Manhattanite friends tell us that it’s impossible to find a space inside on weekend evenings and were surprised at how uncrowded it was when we were there on a Saturday afternoon.) This bar is quite tidy and compact, reminding me of something you would find in Spain. Wine is available by the glass, carafe, or bottle, and is poured with great flourish. The food, particularly the meats and cheeses, looked excellent, but we didn’t have time to eat, which was a pity because the hams and cheeses and other tapas looked terrific. We will return again!

“great spot near union square”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

Very sophisticated and intimate, which is unusual for the area. It does get crowded v. quickly after work so get there early! Great wine selection, service and tapas food. Its my staple 'lets meet somewhere convenient' place to see friends!
