“Friendly, delicious, fast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Small Japanese restaurant that specializes in buckwheat soba noodles. Noodles are made fresh all day in a small booth at the front where diners can watch the un-mechanical, all human process. In fact, they are so proud of their noodles' freshness that they will not deliver - no soggy noodles here! They also have a few sushi and meat dishes if you so desire, but fresh soba noodles in a vegetable broth is just wonderful so works as a great place for vegetarians as well. They are always happy to accommodate families with small kids in the side booths, but can fill up fast. Honey wasabi ice cream is terrific too.

“Unpretentious, great service, food and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

With so many noodle places, establishments really have to be special to warrant repeat business and here does just that.
The service is excellent, unobtrusive, knowledgeable and friendly.
We had the early dinner special $18- Mon- Fri before 7.30pm as it is only $8 more than a bowl of noodles and you get appetizers, tempura, noodles and dessert.
All well cooked and delicious. Servers regularly top up tea and water.

Worth a try and I definitely will be back.

“Great soba/udon place in the east village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Sobaya offers a great selection of Japanese noodle dishes. I was here with my family, so we ordered 4 dishes and all got to try different things. Everything was delicious, and authentic, with noodle preperations on par with those in Japan.

Make sure to try the deserts! The green tea brûlée was to die for...

“Consistently very good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

We have been going to Sobaya for years. It is our neighborhood fall back. Clean, fresh and simple food, beautifully presented. The hot soba in the winter is very good, but the cold soba is excellent at any time The service is friendly and efficient and the restaurant is quiet.

“Great deal and quality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012 via mobile

We got there around noon and didn't have to wait. Was able to order the lunch box special for $17. Of which, you get a small plate of soba, rice, grilled salmon, veggies, tofu salad, shrimp tempura, and dessert. Get there early! They only allow 25 boxes per day. Naming all this is making me hungry for more soba. Will be back for more!
