“Some of the best pastries in E. Village”

If you're having dinner in the East Village, do not order dessert at the restaurant. Just waddle your way here. You'll be glad you walked here. It's worth every calorie.

“First Class Bakery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

This is my family's go to place to get celebration and birthday cakes. My daughter's first birthday cake was a Strawberry Shortcake from Veneiro's. She is now 9 and we got her last birthday cake their as well. We have been going there for years. They have all sorts of Italian pastries. You can sit and have all sorts of cake and coffee. They do get busy around the holidays so plan ahead.

“Delicious pastries at reasonable prices!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Wow! I can see why this place is so crowded and generates this kind of business. They are putting out quality products and not over charging for the privilege.

While the service is a little sluggish, the product it worth the wait. Went for dessert tonight after dinner in Queens. We got there at the right time as we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, while throngs of ticket taking walk-ins waited for take-out.

Things started off great. The hostess seated us and gave us menus. Water glasses quickly arrived and our server took our order while giving friendly answers to a few simple questions. We went with a scrumptious carrot cake, chock full of finely chopped walnuts, cinnamon and spice, with a perfect balance of sweet cream cheese icing. We also got a chocolate volcano which was absolute chocolate decadence. The cake was moist but not overly sweet, with coated in just the right touch of chocolate sauce for dipping, topped with a refreshing scoop of coffee gelato. While I've had better gelato, this version--while perhaps not a great stand alone version--made for a fine accompaniment to the cake, providing a nice balance of temperature and adding a delectable creaminess.

Unfortunately, the cappuccino was just so-so all around. The flavor was a touch weak, the temperature a touch cool and the entire thing was overwhelmed by the addition of far too much whipped cream. I'd go with an espresso or a coffee next time.

Additionally, our server more or less disappeared, leaving us no other option other than to flag down the hostess to bring us our check. 2 desserts and cappuccino for under $15 in New York? Hard to beat that!

“Best cheesecake ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

What a beautiful place this is!! Very nice bakery, very old, very stylish. You can either sit in the Café or take out. The NY style cheesecake just doesn't get any better! You have to try one. Or two. Or three...

“poorly rated based on service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We were seated in the dine-in area. After we both realized we had been sitting for a considerable amount of time without a waiter coming by at all, we got up and walked out right past the 2 waiters who could have easily been to our tables, since there were only 2 othertables of people dining in.
