Description: Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

“Millionaires brasserie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Went there after visit to galleries and Whitneys. Not much of eateries around there, but this looked best and it was full of locals (probably local millionaires?).
Restaurant is french brasserie with historical art nouveau interiors. We went for menu fix with good choice of dishes- beetroot salad was excellent, strip steak was good, lamb navarine was delivered in hot pot. But best was strawberry vacherine- so subtle and delicious!

“Ordinary and expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

Even accepting this is an upper east side eatery, this is particularly poor. The food was bland, barely warm and for the price, beyond the minimalism of nouveau cuisine. Many many better places in Upper East side.

“FATOOTZED”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Things are different this year......the good is offset by the bad. First, the good......steak tartare, cold poached salmon, roast prime rib all excellent. HOWEVER, the noise is unbearable and service was beyond unprofessional last night. NOW, the place is jammed so this must have been a moment of maximum fatootzed. HMMMM

“Lovely leisurely luncheon!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

On an oppressively hot and humid day, we opted to sit indoors for lunch, passing on an otherwise lovely outdoor dining area. Happily, the inside was no disappointment; a lovely room in a beautiful Beaux Arts style building. Food is excellent in most all areas, superior in some. The dishes we ate spoke of long experience with the recipes. A notable luncheon entree is Lamb Navarin, which was absolutely fabulous, the lamb exceptionally tasty and juicy; the vegetables done perfectly. The french onion soup, though almost trite on some menus, should not be missed here. A lunch special with calamari, prawn and noodle was very nicely balanced and savory. Only the salmon terrine failed in tasting a bit heavy. The service is "quiet professional".

“Best French Cafe outside of Paris”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Best chopped liver pate I have ever had outside of Paris. This is my favorite place to go when in New York City for a real treat. Great for lunch or dinner, but make a reservation if you want a good table, it gets crowded.
