Description: CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines. In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $37 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 18 guest each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40. The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onwards. DANIEL • DB Bistro Moderne •Boulud Sud• Bar Boulud • DBGB Kitchen & Bar

“What A Way To Start Your Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

We all know that the eponymous inspiration for this and other restaurants is a star, but can his people do breakfast - it may be the simplest meal of the day, but it is, arguably, the most creatively arduous. And the folks at Cafe Boulud more than rise to the occasion, they create an occasion. I say the folks and not just the person behind the big stove in the kitchen because everyone one here helps you forget that breakfast is a morning event. Cheerful, friendly, but unobtrusive, each person you encounter has a smile, a welcoming air, and - if you like a few words in the morning - some pleasant comments about the 'day so far'.

Let's get down to it - I've never had better pancakes; don't know if these are the best ever, but i've never never had better. The juice - orange for me - was heaven. The coffee was good, not great, but good (I had a cappuccino, two actually, and it seemed squeezed into too small a cup - I think a cappuccino deserves a bit more breathing space for that frothy foam).

There were six of us at the table, and you could tell by the animation in the conversation that each one was happy and well-served and fed - lots of good comments about the crab cake eggs Benedict.

So I loved it - I wish I were in the city more often in the morning; or I wish I were in this part of the city more often in the morning - I would become a familiar face here if so.

“Yummy breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

I only ate here for breakfast. Both the service and food were excellent. I had the granola with yoghurt and seasonal fruit.
The range on offer is very good from steak to croissant.

“Excellent food in an elegant room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Daniel Boulud's reputation brought us here and it was a great experience. The room is pretty, white tablecloths and clinking cutlery and glasses -- full of business lunches, couples, a smattering of tourists. Feels elegant but not up tight, people all around you are having a good time.
The food is simply delicious! High quality ingredients, creative combinations, beautiful plating. You know someone's in charge in the kitchen. It's expensive for dinner, but the prix fixe lunch is a good deal with the menu changing weekly. We had delicious salad, risotto, fish, agnolotti with zucchini. And the Boulud breads they bring around are out of this world. Definitely worth trying if you're on the upper east side, especially at lunch.

“What's Not to Love?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I'll get to the food and service, but first, the scene. Comfortable room, not too big. Families, older couples, uncomfortable date nights, nicely dressed, having fun (and this on a Sunday night). A great vibe. Worth it to see that for a visitor, life on the Upper East Side. The menu is varied, interesting and sensitive to those who prefer the classics, the more adventurous, the meatless or the more simple. Service was generally the right balance between too much and just enough, attentive, careful, efficient, and very well informed about the food and wine. The food was as well executed as you'll find. Amazing veloute, impeccable duck, desserts to die for, among many other things. The adjoining bar is a good scene too, we had a bit of a wait after our reserved time, but didn't mind a bit. As to expense, breath that E. 70s air and go with it.
