Description: Pastis is a French bistro located in Manhattan's meatpacking district opened by Keith McNally. Executive Chef Pascal Le Seac'h prepares a menu that combines hearty Provencal dishes with moderately-priced bistro fare. The bar serves a range of house cocktails, wines by the glass, carafe or bottle, and several varieties of pastis, an anise-flavored aperitif from the south of France.

“Great atmosphere, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

First time coming to the village and found the area lively and exciting. We had a reservation at 8.30pm. We were seated at a corner table at the very end of the restaurant, which was fine as it felt more cozy. Services were good. We had oysters, arugular salad as appetizers which were great, very fresh. Hubby got steak frites and he said was delicious and cooked well. I had mussels which were a bit bland...but the fries were yum! We finished off with strawberry shortcake!
This was not a place for fine dining but for hanging out with friends, having some fine food and enjoying the atmosphere.

“Not Worth It”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I've lived in NYC for 12 years and have never been here despite it's reputation for a great brunch. I was very underwhelmed by it. The food was good, but not worth the money and our service was pretty mediocre. We had to flag down the waiter several times to correct mistakes with our bill.

“My new favorite place for brunch in New York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I wish words could describe how fabulous we thought brunch was here...eggs benedict were so amazing. We grabbed a small table right in a window near the door in a cozy alcove, it was fun because you could watch everyone come in and out. If you go to NYC, you need to have brunch here!!

“Excellent restaurant, great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

On June 12th 2013 we returned to Pastis after having been there in May 2011. It was as good as first time we went there. Therefore we even went there a second time during our 6 day stay in NYC. We did not have a reservation even though we knew from our dining there in 2011 that it is highly recommended. Last time we had to wait quite a while for our table.
Either we were lucky or we just hit the right time. We got a table immediately and it was a very good corner table to have an excellent view into the restaurant to see what's going on.
The waiter (Erin) was exceptionally friendly, helpful and he knew about all the dishes we asked about. Not only what comes with it, but also how it is cooked.
We ordered as a starter the Chicken Liver & Fois Gras Mousse which was excellent and served with grilled bread. Additionally we've been served with home made bread of the restaurant, just great taste and texture - unusual for the US to serve good bread.
as entree I had Moules Frites au Pernod and my partner had Steak Frites w/Bérnaise quite expensive the second one, but really worth every penny.
We had great beer and after dinner a drink Marie Brizard (Anisette - tastes like Sambuco).
The second evening we went there we took the same appetizer (Chicken Liver....) and I choose the Fish and Chips w/Tartar Sauce, my partner wanted to take the Pastis Bar Steak w/Bérnaise which is 10$ less than the Steak Frite he had the first evening we went there. I convinced him to take again the same as it was so wonderful. So he went again for the more expensive one and he was again more than happy with it.
Really funny was that the second evening we went there to have dinner we also went very spontanuously and hoped so much that we would have the same luch as first time. The waiter was so sorry to just offer us a corner table and asked whether we would like to wait or to take it - of course we took it!
Pastis is one of the restaurants we absolutely will go again to asap we'll be in NYC again - hopefully very soon. It is one of the best restaurants we went to in NYC during our 3 times we already have been to NYC so far.
We recommend Pastis very much.

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

Disgusting breakfast. Cost us $51 dollars for greasy disgusting food. We visited New York for 10 days & this was the only bad meal we had. I ordered an omelette & it came with greasy burnt chips. Hardly fine dining. Save your money & go to the village for a nice meal instead of the snooty meat packing district. Completely over rated
