“Good sushi, but bill can add up fast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

My wife and I had a good meal here early (6 PM) on a Friday night. The place is huge. We went into basement bar area first then were sent to ground floor to register & then up another flight to eat. We had the big eye tuna tart ($21) and the grilled octopus ($17). Although the waiter warned the octopus would be chewy, it was grilled nicely and delicious. The tuna was also good. That said the amount of food was small. We had the Chilean sea bass ($32) for one main course. Here the portion was large. The fish was cooked perfectly and some of the best sea bass we have ever eaten. We also had 2 rolls: Spicy Yellowtail ($12) and Snow Crab ($17). We asked for the mayo for the yellowtail on the side and it was nicely smeared on the plate, not just placed in a little bowl. Both rolls were excellent. I could have easily eaten another roll. The food was good, but it is a place to save for a special sushi night given the prices. The service was fine. Service was not rushed. Some sushi places rush you out. Even though we were early and the place nearly empty they did not serve us to quickly.

“RUN! Do not walk to this restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Calling this Jem a sushi restaurant is way to limiting. This is a dining extravaganza for any Hi end connoisseur. The commitment to excellence is so widespread that even the Garden salad i ordered was an amazing culinary treat. Since all the reviews basically communicate the same degree of fulfillment, i thought i would just recommend a few of the items that were out of this world stupendous. The snapper taco, the lobster roll, the tempura and above all the Big eyed Tuna were a must have when visiting here. The down side. is the PRICE. We spent slightly over $100 per person.

“AMAZING! A MUST IF YOU ARE IN NYC!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

My friend who I visit each year in NYC recommended this Japanese Restaurant, saying that it was one of the best in NYC, and I must say, this is one of the best Japanese Restaurants I have been to in all my travels around the US. The sushi comes out at a nice pace so that you can enjoy what you eat, and they have an amazing selection of fresh fish from which you can choose. Also, their specialty drinks are amazing too! Very unique flavors that I've not had anywhere else.

So, if you can get a reservation, I recommend coming earlier as they do become very crowded later in the evening.

“Best Sushi in the City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Bond Street hands down is the best sushi place in NYC (nobu is a close 2nd). I come here every couple of months and the food is consistent. The lounge downstairs is a great first date spot as its trendy, ambient, and offers the capability of inching closer. The service is average and the servers seem entitled however I'm usually too engaged with the person I'm with to notice too much. They always make sure my drink is full and the sushi ample so I'm happy. This isn't the sort of place you come for the service anyway. The service is the fast and they don't rush you out.

GREAT for late night.
