“Noisy as hell, and food grossly overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

This place is so noisy that unless one is deaf, the decibel level has got to be a health hazard. I pity those who actually work in this environment!
I must say the food is actually okay. But not at the prices they charge. OK. $75 or so for a whole roast chicken. Really. $135 for steak for two. I can get better and bigger steaks at real steak houses for less.
As I said, the food is okay. But definitely not worth the price. If you must go, at least bring ear muffs. You'll need them. Also, if you go to the restrooms, bring a dollar or two. They actually have an attendant who turns the tap on for you, in return for tips.
This is NYC with tons of great restaurants. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

“Another icon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

A trip here for brunch (or any other meal for that matter) is essential especially after a big night out. Bookings advised. It's worth it just to see the enormous round loaves of bread. Waiters carrying platters held high, magnificent room, good service and great food.

“Nothing Special, very expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We got a last minute reservation to Balthazar (not sure how they pulled that one off!) so we thought we'd try it because everyone had talked it up! We weren't really disappointed, but weren't impressed either. We shared the goat cheese and onion tart which was good, but nothing too special and then we each had a steak with fries. They were good, but they weren't anything special. We also shared a cheesecake for dessert which was tasty. I guess we were just a little underwhelmed by it - maybe people had talked it up too much!! We felt a little bit ripped off for what we got as well. The service, however was excellent and the restaurant is really nice (even if you are sitting on your neighbour's lap!) I wouldn't go back, but I would maybe recommend it if you want to try something popular and tasty.

“A little bit of Paris in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Loved the ambiance, the very Parisian feel and of course the food was amazing. The perfect solo traveler's breakfast accompanied by the morning newspaper.
