“Am I in Paris?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I love Paris. So, when we are in NYC... a much shorter commute btw, we eat here.

My favorite spot is at the bar to talk to whoever is sitting next to you. Have a minute, make a friend.

We start with oysters and will spilt a bottle of wine (a must!) then move on to food. I love the herb omelet and have had just about
the perfect burger here.

But, the food to really fantasize about are the fries! Sounds dumb, but they are the best I've had in this country.

Expensive yes, but the service and food are worth every hard earned penny. Truly Parisian and wonderful.

“Disappointing..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Despite most reviews, I found the food disappointing. Had the Hazelnut waffles which were cold and nothing spectacular. Berries served on the side were scalding hot and obviously (over) heated in the microwave, Have had better pancakes in cheap diners. Service was good though

“Popular with tourists and locals, high priced but high quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

There's no getting around the fact that with Balthazar, you are not so much buying a meal but an experience. It's popular with tourists, helped no doubt by frequent references on TV, but surprisingly it's popular with locals too -- given how busy it is, we were surprised to see Orlando Bloom nipping into a corner booth the other day. The answer is probably the food - definitely high priced by comparison with most, but very good quality and served with almost Disneyesque cheerfulness.

The tables are phenomenally close together, at times it is unbearably loud, but the place has a vibe which rewards visitors and keeps drawing them back. I can go elsewhere and have a great brunch for half the price, but it probably won't have that sense of (now) classic New York.

“Loved Balthazar!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

This was the perfect spot to start our weekend in NYC! 4 of us had a late (10:30PM) dinner at Balthazar on a Friday night (Aug. 2). The place was packed and noisy – not in a bad way but such that because the level was so intense it was as if there was no noise at all. We waited at the bar for our table and had a round of drinks and soaked in the combustible atmosphere. We started with half a dozen oysters, then onion soup, steak frites and seared organic salmon. Both main dishes were to share and they were perfectly portioned and done perfectly. Service from the host/hostess to the bar man and waiters was exceptional.

“Try the steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We were walking through Soho area looking for something different. Had read about this being a tourist favorite. IT HAS ATMOSPHERE but is loud and noisy and people are squeezed close together. If you like quiet this is not the place to go. Staff very attentive. MY pasta was very very average. I rated this as I did due to the bar steak. Husband raved on and on about how it was one of the best he has eaten. I would say this is a place to go to celebrate special events. Expensive. They had fresh seafood that looked wonderful. Been a better choice. Bakery on premise. We were lucky to walk in without a reservation.
