“So many cheeses, so little time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Was so excited to stop in Murray's cheese shop on a self guided food tour of the Village. Brought home 2 cheeses that we later devoured. Was a little disappointed that they did not have any crackers available for purchase, but was impressed with their large selection of cheeses, jams, honeys, gelato and beer.

“Cheese Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

This place is cheese heaven. Get here early because i can see how it can get really busy. They offer lots of cheeses to choose from both pre-cut and sliced to order. The staff is super friendly and very helpful with their recommendations. I will make a trip to Murrays whenever I am in NYC.

“Quality produce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We went to Murray's Cheese Bar last week whilst on hols in NYC and I have to say that all the good things people said about the qualiity of the produce was spot on.

We had the cheesemongers platter (5 cheeses and 3 meats with accompanying chutneys and breads) and we were any asked if there were any particular flavours or styles of cheese that we were/weren't keen on. We told them that we were keen to try bold cheese flavours and they did not disappoint, with a mixture incuding a strong Isle of Mull Cheddar, a fantastic, rich Chevrot (goats) and a very deep and complex Blu di Bufala. These were all served with different chutneys that were designed to compliment the individual cheeses.

Served alongside the cheese were a wild boar salami, a tasso ham and a fantastic prosciutto - all of them tender and full of flavour.

The wine and beer choice was really good. My wife had a couple of glasses of a sparkling pinot /chardonnay blend from New Mexico (surprisingly good) and I had a fantastic bottle of Maine Brewing Companies Weez Black IPA - again, a perfect compliment to the robust cheese flavours

The only slight negative was that after just turning up without a reservation and the FOH staff working hard to find us an appropriate table (my wife had her ankle in an aircast so they sat us at the bar where she had more space) the waiter was much more interested in serving the locals, who happened to be a number of 20-something females, rather than a middle aged couple who are willing to tip quite well!

Overall, a really positive experience.

“If you want cheese, any cheese, this is your place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

The location on Bleeker Street is great. It's a wonderful part of NYC. The selection of cheese is amazing. And you can get a sample if you want. The staff is well trained and knowledgeable about all of their products. They bottled a store brand Spanish olive oil which is great and affordable. They will make a sandwich for you as well. We have not tried it yet, but they also have wine tasting classes.

There is also a location at Grand Central in the Grand Central Market. Not as big as a selection as Bleeker Street, but plenty of choices.

“Definitely will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

I went to Murray's last Saturday with 3 friends, prior to going to dinner. There was something about this place that grabbed me immediately (maybe it was the sweet photo of Murray staring me in the face :-) We sat at the bar and had the Cheesemonger platter with 5 cheeses & 3 meats, as well as a bottle of red & white wines. Our server was friendly, attentive guiding us through the cheese & meat selections that we left in his hands. Each was delectable, and it taught me that you don't have to have huge amounts of cheese to enjoy it! A simple "smear" on a cracker is sometimes all you need to savor the flavor & texture. Although this visit was an abbreviated one, it is definitely on my list to return to this fall!
