“Great location. Fabulous staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are small, but we were only there to sleep. We were across from the elevators but never heard a thing. The location is fantastic, short walk to the subway, shopping, dining. We always slept too late and missed breakfast, but there is a Pure Fresh 2 doors down and they had good breakfast options. The best part of staying here has to be the fantastic staff. Everyone was so just so kind! Twice we needed a taxi/car and both times someone from the front desk went outside with us to help locate one. They gave us advice on negotiating fares, routes. One evening we returned to find a bed had been knocked off it's frame by housekeeping. I called the front desk who immediately sent a very nice young man up. He took the entire bed apart, put it back together and remade the bed for us. No problem. Will definitely stay here again.

When you visit New York, you should generally be prepared for two realities: hotels are expensive and rooms are going to be smaller than in other big cities. This Best Western isn't going to wow you on the size of their rooms (they're small/average), but the price, location and cleanliness are all fantastic. Located just east of 36th St & 6th Avenue, this hotel is a mere 6 blocks from Times Square. Public transportation-wise, this hotel is a 10 minute walk northeast of Penn Station and there's also a subway station one block away on 35th & 6th to get you to the East Village, Brooklyn, the Financial District, etc.
Staff were very friendly throughout, whether it be checking in or leaving our bags with the bellhop on our checkout day before retrieving them later.
The room we got was right by the elevator so we could here it when people were waiting for or leaving the elevator but it really wasn't a big deal. There are only, roughly 6 rooms per floor so you're not exactly dealing with a lot of foot traffic.
Next time my wife and I come back to New York, we're definitely going to try and stay here.

Room Tip: If you don't want to stay by the elevator, avoid a room with 01 as the last two digits (e.g., 50...

LIKEs:
* Brand new hotel that opened less than 4 months ago, which is well located on West 36th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, in the heart of Herald Square, with 17-story, 94-room. The hotel was designed with a high-end boutique look and feel as well as upscale amenities.
Overall, we find the facilities very clean and good customer services provided.
* Perfect location and convenient to majority of Manhattan tourist attractions. Short walking distance to Herald Square and Penn Station subway stations. During our stay, we mainly took subways to our chosen destinations. From the hotel's Midtown location, we were able to walk to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Pier 83 (for Circle Line sightseeing cruise of Manhattan), and nearby Time Square. Macy's is only a stone thrown away along with many high-end shops on 5th Avenue. It is easy to maneuver the grid setting of New York city streets.
* Great selection of breakfast items served every morning at a room located in the cellar, which include several types of breads, danishes, yogurt, eggs, sausages, pancakes, oatmeal, raisins, bananas and various kinds of dry cereals. In addition, two types of juices, water, coffee and choices of tea bags are available. We LOVE the little croissants and the Denver style egg white patties. The breakfast ladies kept the items decently stocked, and only a short wait for available table during the height of breakfast hours.
* Coffee and various types of tea bags service available right by the elevator - we grabbed a cup of tea every night upon returning to the hotel after spending a long day wandering out in town as a nightcap.
* Bathroom is well design with great use of space. Glass shower door in lieu of curtain is definitely a PLUS!
* Even though our room is right across from the two elevators, we find it to be rather quiet, and can only hear the dings from the elevators or conversations from people outside our room only when we are standing close to our room door.
* Floor to ceiling window makes the room airy. Other than a night with police action nearby that we heard police sirens, we can barely hear any noises on 36th Street, even though our room is located below the double digits floors..

Slight DISAPPOINTMENTs:
* Being Diamond status of Best Western Reward Program, we were placed on a single digit floor, even after requesting for upper floors on our reservation placed over two months ago. We paid over $260 (without taxes and charges) for room with 2 beds. Comparing to the amount posted by other TripAdvisor reviewers, compounding with the fact that their stays are during the peak summer travelling season, paid far less than us and yet have been placed on floors much higher than us, we felt that the hotel is slightly over-priced for our mid-September stay.
* Room is on the small side. We need to be very organized with placement of our luggage, and not having toiletries and clothing items spread all over due to limitation of spaces. The beds are also on the short, feet sticking out of the beds even for individuals that are 5' 7" in height. (LOL, cruise cabin is larger than the hotel room)

Room Tip: Higher floors for better views. Rooms ending with 1, 2 and 3 face 36th Street with floor to ceiling...

Relatively new hotel. Boutique style of decor. Excellent location, walking distance to Empire State Building, Time Square, Port Authority, Pier 83, Penn Station and Herald Square Subway stops, as well as attractions located in Midtown Manhattan, Central Park, etc. Good selections of breakfast items including danishes, oatmeal, cereals, egg patties, bagels, different types of bread and pancakes for breakfast, plus coffee, various choices of teabags, oas well as juices. The bed is on the short side and the room is tight with space, however, the bathroom is well layout. Enjoy having coffee, hot water and teabags available at the lobby. Our room is facing 36th Street with ceiling to floor window and find it relatively quiet, even though we are located in one of the single diit floor facing the elevator. Disappointed that the hotel did not honor my request for upper floors, even though I am a Diamond Best Western Reward member. We booked the hotel in end of June for our second week of September stay and paid over $260 per night -- not as fortunate as other reviewers that paid less than $200 per night.

This is a newly renovated Best Western in a great location of NYC (Herald Square). The rooms are small as expected for downtown, but well organized, very clean, very neat and quiet at night. We were pleased.

Located next to Macey's and subway stops this modern hotel was a winner. Have stayed in New York many times, but for the price this was our favourite hotel. The rooms are modern, new and clean. We actually had a decent view from room 1601 which is an executive room and bigger. There were only 5 rooms on our floor. The bed was super comfortable. In room safe and coffee maker, big shower with rain shower head, no tub. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They have good maps at the front desk with subway stops listed. Small business center with a printer. Free breakfast was quite good with cooked eggs and sausage...even cooked egg whites for those who prefer that. There is a nice outdoor sitting area for smoking or people watching or just having your coffee. We found it wasn't a bad walk to Times Square at all and mostly walked everywhere we went. There is also a small quiet lounge/bar off the lobby. We would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are a really good size.

Me and my bf took a weekend trip to NYC. This was a great location, near metro and timesquare. we booked 2 of the 3 nights with the hotel directly and one night under our airmiles. Upon checking in we informed them of this( bc airmiles said they might switch us to another room) and they said it was noted. we ask what floor and casually ask how the view is. lady helping said we have a great view of the empire state building. well we get to our room, our view is a brick wall. whatever. its a room, just going to sleep in it. anyway we do our daily adventure and come night time about to sleep. we heard EVERYTHING . it was difficult to get any sleep and after long days of walking in New York, that's really all you need. we heard doors opening, showers being turned on, telephone receivers being picked up/ hung up. breakfast was good. we definitely took advantage of that. coming down at about quarter to 8 there were no tables available.
otherwise it is a very small room, nicely decorated but the walls are paper thin.

oh and on top of all that they charged our credit card for that third night. Got our money back but got left with the credit card companies currency transfer rates.

will not be coming back.

Room Tip: If you want to sleep, choose a different hotel. we stayed thurs-sun.
