“Excellent hotel in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Stayed at the HIE 36th St for 2 nights and had a great time. Check in was quick and efficient, front desk staff always friendly. Requested a late check out - 12pm, and had no issues.
Hotels is brand new, nicely decorated, comfortable beds. Had a room on a higher floor with a beautiful view of the Empire State building.
Internet is free of charge and works perfectly. Breakfast is included, not amazing, but perfectly fine if you want to save some money. Has coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, fruit, cereal, breads, pancake, cinnamon roll, eggs, etc.
The location is great, two blocks from Macy's, close to Penn Station and a short walk to all main attractions.
I will definitely be back!

Only open a couple of months - got a great rate on their website and spent four nights there. When we opened the door to the original room we checked into, there was an ozone air purifier running at full blast - obviously someone had broken the 'no smoking' policy and I hope they got a nice surcharge added to their bill. Front desk was very apologetic and immediate reassigned us to another room on a higher floor which was perfect. Small room, but plenty of windows and light. Reminded me of some of the hotel rooms I've had in London or other european cities. Bathroom more spacious and clean. Housekeeping top notch. There are only 2 elevators, but they are fast and large, so didn't run into the delays that I had at another hotel in the Chelsea area last year. Was jet lagged so didn't get to experience the breakfast until the last day when there was no one else in the room. It was fine for what I wanted. Location can't be beat. Would stay again IF I could get a good rate.

Great location near Macys and price was good as well as modern rooms.

BUT some minor details need addressing to make it truly great: its been open for 1 month and sold out most of the time. This makes sense to me considering location and the fact that people like new. Areas of improvement: 1) Breakfast free but condiments were lacking- ketchup/hot sauce, healthy choices were limited- signage would help know where things are 2) front desk staff training- delays at checkin/checkout 3) no doorman/bellman- raining and had to hail own cabs, manage own luggage 4) no parking affiliation at ICON across street, even tho 24 hr rate of $52 seems good, lower rates are shown online. 5) Shower is sleek and modern but leaks out the door.

If those things are addressed/improved I will be staying here more in the future. If not, I would pay a bit more to have full amenities at more-established properties.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor especially if you are a rewards member. You can get bottled water from the front...

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel looks very new. The room was clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable. Staffs were friendly.
Breakfast was complimentary. Busy in the morning, but always managed to find seats for breakfast.
Located near Macy's and Penn station.

the staff is super nice. if you're in a big group take a shuttle to the hotel but if it is less than 4 people take the airtrain and get off in Jamaica then take the e train to penn station. the hotel is about 10 minutes on foot from the train. Breakfast was real good. room is small but comfortable

I've stayed in a lot of the express-style hotels: Hampton Inn, Holiday In Express, etc. Theses are sort of places that have a free breakfast served from 6 - 10 in the morning in a small room off the lobby. Not bad for what it is, usually, but it's not a meal at a restaurant either. It's arguable whether you'd be better off at McDonalds although this hotel was better than most in that regard.

The Holiday Inn Express on 37th near Herald Square is at the top end of the scale for this type of hotel. It's new and clean, and the rooms are pretty well appointed. The staff was just average - not rude but not particularly service oriented, either.

My big concern was the noise level in the room - the elevator dings loudly, there is poor insulation on the street side, and you can hear people next door. If that bothers you, it might be good to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Get a room facing away from 36th street. Otherwise you'll be listening to the music from the bar...

I stay at the hotel in the last week of February. I only have good things to say about it, very comfortable bed, nice room view( Empire state building).Good breakfast,wi-fi signal. Computers and printer in the lobby, free american coffee. And the most important a great price. Very nice staff. I can't ask for more, for the price i pay. If your looking for a nice hotel,in a good location,at a reasonable price, this is the one.
