“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We have just returned from a four night break in New York and had pre-booked our restaurants in advance......we took the recommendation of open table for the first night.....Crave Fishbar.

We had selected more established restaurants for the last three nights and wanted something more chilled out for the first night.

The Crave Fishbar comprises a long bar for drinking/dining with tables at the front/back/side of the restaurant. We took a side table with stools....really old world New York. The service was impeccable (Tom) who was so knowledgable about all aspects of the menu and about the range of beers and wines. We shared excellent crab and king prawns with monk fish to follow......superbly cooked.

There was a great atmosphere in the Fishbar and was an ideal choice for the first night when we were tired from travelling from London. We now have our first night mapped out for us when we return in 2013.

“Excellent All Around!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Had dinner Tuesday the 11th at Crave-what a great experience. Our server was super friendly, efficient and very personable. We had the burrata, prawns and scallop crudo to start with a few specialty cicktails and then a nice bottle of white. Entrees were John Dory, monkfish and the lobster curry-all top shelf. Don't miss the salted carmel ice ream with the warm cookie-we will definitley be back!

“Yummy and More”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I was in NYC this week with two other business associates and we decided to have a nice dinner. We really didn’t know where to go, or what type of food we were hungry for. By accident, we stumbled upon Crave Fishbar on 2nd Ave between E 50th and E 51st. It was a Tuesday night and the place was full. We feared a long wait, but they had a table for us. The hostess offered to take our coats, and the fun began.

Food: The menu was delightfully short but varied. We started with two appetizers, the Local Spicy Scallop and the Plancha Grilled Octopus. It was melt in your mouth delicious. The spicy was just perfect, not to much but enough to let your mouth know it was there. The octopus was the most tender octopus we have ever had. Wonderful.

We each ordered a different entrée, the Seared Line Caught Yellowfin Tuna, the Pan Roasted Crispy Local Skate Wing, and the Lobster Curry. Because we are all friends, we shared samples of each of our main courses. Delicious does not even begin to tell the story of aromas, seasonings, and cooked to perfection meals. Normally we don’t do deserts, but we had to try the Salted Caramel Ice Cream. All I can say about the entire meal is that we were tempted to lick the platters clean.

Service: Have you ever been to a restaurant where he wait staff sort of hovered over you, trying to rush your meal so they could turn over the table. If you want that experience at Crave, you will be disappointed. Tom, our server was attentive, but not pushy. He observed from afar and if he sensed that we needed something he was there, otherwise he allowed us to enjoy our meal without distraction or interruption. We felt that we could have sat there for the entire evening and they would have been happy to have us.

So if you find yourself in midtown, near 2nd Ave and East 50th, surprise yourself with an incredible meal, delightful surrounding and exceptional service. Crave Fishbar at 945 2nd Ave, NYC. It was so good I want to back right now, and I just left the place!

“If you like fish!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Went to Crave fishbar, evening before Thanksgiving, while visiting our daughter in NYC. If you like fish prepared differently, then this is place for you. Very small space, but the food was delicious. Wife and daughter were more than satisfied with their choices. Also reasonably priced for NYC. We had reservations for 8 pm, arrived a little early and had to wait about 15 min. I would diffently go back to this restaurant.

“Small place, great food, reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We were ready for a nice dinner out, and found this new place around the corner from us open 3 months, first reservation wasn't available until 9:30, but we took a chance at 8pm anyway. It was crowded, but the hostess said we could eat at the bar if we could find a seat, and after about 10 minutes we were able to do so. What a pleasant surprise! A nice wine list, three interesting draft beers plus many bottles, and the very interesting menu changes daily based on which fish are available fresh from the market. Grilled octopus salad was a great starter to share, house-made Ramen noodles with chili-rubbed hake was perfect comfort food, and tilefish with fresh interesting market vegetables provided a lighter counterpart for my wife. We finished with homemade chocolate cookie and ice cream. The experience, menu, and quality were reminiscent of what one might find in a trendy downtown spot, but the price was15-20% lower. All in all, a very nice new place for the neighborhood.
