“Very Pleasant and Intimate dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2008

This was our most enjoyable dinner form our recent vacation to NYC. The setting is very intimate and the service impeccable. We both had the 3 course prix-fixe and all of our dishes were very enjoyable. The wine list is extensive but very overpriced.

My wife started with the Goat Cheese & Artichoke Ravioli. This was very nice and delicate, however, she did not enjoy the beet sauce (she doesn’t like beets). I had the Petit Gris Escargot & Polenta Gâteaux. This had excellent flavor but was difficult to eat as the Parmesean Tuile was fragile but necessary with each bite to pull the flavors together. Both of these dishes are pictured in this review.

For the Entrée, I had the Duo of Berkshire Pork Loin & Braised Pork Belly, and my wife had a halibut dish (new to the menu) which was delicious. The pork loin was tender and very tasty. The pork belly had crispy skin but was very fatty. It was still very delicious.

As for desserts, I had the Caramelized Brittany Crêpe which was the best dessert I have had in a long time. My wife had the “Sichuan Pepper” Roasted Baby Pineapple which was nice but not nearly as good as the crepe!

Overall this was a pleasant evening and well worth the money. I would definitely go again.

“Down the street from Gramercy Tavern and much nicer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2008

Our last night in the city and this was a great end to a great trip. We had the 6 course dinner tasting menu, with wine pairings and between us covered most of the dishes on offer.

Particular highlights were Main Lobster with Black Tuffle Mayonnaise, Escargot and Polenta Gateau, the cheese course, and the chocolate tarte. The wine pairings were appropriate and exceedingly generous (in fact we couldn't finish the wine with the cheese course - a Vouvray, or the pudding wine as we were too full).

The dining room is tastefully appointed, with paintings by the chef (clearly a multi talented man).

The take away cup cake was a nice touch too.

The bill at $400 for 2 including the tip was the same as the Gramercy Tavern, and we both felt Fleur de Sel offered better food and a more intimate and pleasant atmosphere.

“Unexpectedly amazing restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2008

We were going on an anniversary trip to New York, wanted to go to the Gramercy Tavern, but couldn't get a reservation even though we tried on the exact day bookings were available. (We thought they may be trying to keep up the reputation of being hard to get into!)

So we settled on Fleur de Sel but weren't sure what to expect & were very pleasantly surprised! It doesn't look too much from the outside but when you go in through a curtain, there is a really great atmosphere, cosy but not noisy, friendly with efficient service.

We went for the tasting menu with wine pairings which at $145 per person was fairly reasonable, & the food (& wine was amazing!) The courses started off smaller & got bigger, & we had good quality wine, such as Cloudy Bay Sauvignon. There were lots of extras such as Amuse Bouche & petit fours, & even cupcakes to eat for breakfast when we left! Couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
