“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

What a delight the Refinery Hotel was. As soon as we approached the front doors we were greeted with smiles and offers of help. This continued throughout check-in and even at the elevator doors. It was first class service, but a with a casual, low-key feel. We never felt it was being done for a tip or anything other than good customer service.

The hotel was also very clean and beautifully decorated. We were pleased and surprised by the creative wall murals, the unusual lighting and even the lovely setting in the hall. And the rooms were very spacious! Especially for a New York hotel.

After checking in, Hannah from front reception called up to be sure we were satisfied with the room. Which of course we were! The front desk was always willing to help us with anything, including finding a midnight cookie!

I would definitely recommend this hotel. And I would stay there again in a New York minute!

Needed weekend romantic get away for girlfriend doing business in garment district. I like boutique hotels with style and charm and this looked good. I was not disappointed. fun location with great coffee shop across the street, 2 blocks from Bryant Park. Service was very friendly and quality but not snobby or uncomfortable. It was probably my favorite room I've stayed in at a hotel with style and cleanliness both apparent. Absolutely 5 stars with more Chic than snob and good for cool romantic couples or families of which i saw both during our visit . It was Easter weekend so the price was also right.

A bad hotel can ruin a holiday, a great one makes it. This one certainly made our stay in NYC!! We booked from the 8th-11th May and from the moment we stepped out of the cab and were greeted by the doormen and porters we were made to feel special. They really do just about get everything right. It's a mix of new stylish boutique hotel with old New York charm. It retains many of it's original features. The rooms are excellent and the huge bed (we had a King room) and shower were magnificent. The location is great as well, with Times Square, Empire State, Rockefeller Centre and Broadway all within a 10 minute walk. I genuinely cannot fault this place and we are already looking to book again for next year. Just a mention for the staff as well - from reception to the porters and beyond they cannot do enough for you. We'll be back!!!!

Fantastic service. Great rooms. Amazing rooftop bar (although crowded). Loved Winnies bar too although agree it could be open earlier. Only downside was the poor service at the bar in Parker and Quinn. Overall - recommended.

I recently stayed at the Refinery and were very happy with our stay. We had two rooms both with queen size beds. The service from the front door to the room were excellent. Loved the decor of the rooms. One of the rooms also had a couch and chair so we could get together to talk about our plans for the day. It's location is perfect. Close enough to Times Square for those that want to go there and the subway is close by as well. The only slight annoyance was the line up that forms every night for the roof top patio. The hotel does try to keep them in line however it makes for a very busy lobby. We were worried the pounding music would keep us awake as you can hear it in the hallway but once in our rooms we barely heard the music. We were on the 10th floor. Shopping and restaurants and a park (Bryant) were within walking distance but as mentioned earlier, the subway and yellow cabs are close by. Front desk staff were very accommodating and efficient and the doorman very friendly and helpful (Costa) Dave went out of his way to provide whatever we needed for the rooms. I have stayed at many hotels in NYC and the Refinery is my favourite hotel so far. I will definitely return as long as the price is right. Look for discount code on trip advisor. The big selling feature for us was the queen beds. Being a party of six women we were able to go with two rooms versus three at most other hotels. Excellent hotel.

Finally, a boutique hotel that just gets everything right. The Refinery is chic and trendy but still retains certain classic elements.

My 24-year-old, his former college roommate, and I stayed in a deluxe double queen room. At 400 square feet, it was plenty spacious for the three of us. The decor is great, the hardwood floors are nice, the beds are amazing, the room was spotless--all things that other guests have noted and with which I wholeheartedly agree.

But there are certain little touches that distinguish The Refinery from other boutique properties. For example, there's ample vanity and counter space in the bathroom. The shower control is on the opposite wall from the shower head, which means you can turn on the shower without getting a blast of cold water (simple genius). The door to the shower actually closes with just a small opening at the top which keeps it warm but not too steamy.

The lighting in the room is excellent, and allows for multiple settings (especially helpful when someone wants to go to sleep before someone else). At the same time, the room darkening shades are very effective (especially helpful if someone wants to sleep later than someone else). There is ample seating for more than one person. And the temperature in the room remained comfortable throughout the night--never too hot or cold--which I think might be attributable to a very effective motion detector that recognizes that you're still in the room even if you're sleeping.

The rooftop bar is an architectural delight, combining rustic wood and brick elements with lots of glass. Be sure to check it out while it's still daylight (and before it gets too crowded). Since it's covered we were able to enjoy it during three days of pouring rain. The staff there also were exceptionally fun and friendly.

I've seen some complaints about noise and slow elevators. Sure, there's street noise. It's a busy part of town. If you want a quieter location, try The Jade (on West 13th) or Sanctuary (on West 47th and surprisingly quiet notwithstanding neighboring Times Square). We were on the 13th floor, and the noise didn't really bother us unless there was a flurry of horns, and there's nothing anyone can do about that. We had no problem with the elevator speed. In short, we have no complaints at all and look forward to going back.

Room Tip: Definitely pay a little more for the deluxe double to get the extra space and better bathroom.

Impeccable service from staff. The room was immaculate, comfortable bed, quiet (room on the main street) and spacious for NYC. I had breakfast at the hotel and food quality was great. Went to the Rooftop for cocktails and loved it (casual and chic). Hotel location is superb. I would definitely stay here again.
