“If you're looking for a NYC hotel with Excellent service, great rooms and great location this is it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014 via mobile

I recently stayed at the Refinery and were very happy with our stay. We had two rooms both with queen size beds. The service from the front door to the room were excellent. Loved the decor of the rooms. One of the rooms also had a couch and chair so we could get together to talk about our plans for the day. It's location is perfect. Close enough to Times Square for those that want to go there and the subway is close by as well. The only slight annoyance was the line up that forms every night for the roof top patio. The hotel does try to keep them in line however it makes for a very busy lobby. We were worried the pounding music would keep us awake as you can hear it in the hallway but once in our rooms we barely heard the music. We were on the 10th floor. Shopping and restaurants and a park (Bryant) were within walking distance but as mentioned earlier, the subway and yellow cabs are close by. Front desk staff were very accommodating and efficient and the doorman very friendly and helpful (Costa) Dave went out of his way to provide whatever we needed for the rooms. I have stayed at many hotels in NYC and the Refinery is my favourite hotel so far. I will definitely return as long as the price is right. Look for discount code on trip advisor. The big selling feature for us was the queen beds. Being a party of six women we were able to go with two rooms versus three at most other hotels. Excellent hotel.

Finally, a boutique hotel that just gets everything right. The Refinery is chic and trendy but still retains certain classic elements.

My 24-year-old, his former college roommate, and I stayed in a deluxe double queen room. At 400 square feet, it was plenty spacious for the three of us. The decor is great, the hardwood floors are nice, the beds are amazing, the room was spotless--all things that other guests have noted and with which I wholeheartedly agree.

But there are certain little touches that distinguish The Refinery from other boutique properties. For example, there's ample vanity and counter space in the bathroom. The shower control is on the opposite wall from the shower head, which means you can turn on the shower without getting a blast of cold water (simple genius). The door to the shower actually closes with just a small opening at the top which keeps it warm but not too steamy.

The lighting in the room is excellent, and allows for multiple settings (especially helpful when someone wants to go to sleep before someone else). At the same time, the room darkening shades are very effective (especially helpful if someone wants to sleep later than someone else). There is ample seating for more than one person. And the temperature in the room remained comfortable throughout the night--never too hot or cold--which I think might be attributable to a very effective motion detector that recognizes that you're still in the room even if you're sleeping.

The rooftop bar is an architectural delight, combining rustic wood and brick elements with lots of glass. Be sure to check it out while it's still daylight (and before it gets too crowded). Since it's covered we were able to enjoy it during three days of pouring rain. The staff there also were exceptionally fun and friendly.

I've seen some complaints about noise and slow elevators. Sure, there's street noise. It's a busy part of town. If you want a quieter location, try The Jade (on West 13th) or Sanctuary (on West 47th and surprisingly quiet notwithstanding neighboring Times Square). We were on the 13th floor, and the noise didn't really bother us unless there was a flurry of horns, and there's nothing anyone can do about that. We had no problem with the elevator speed. In short, we have no complaints at all and look forward to going back.

Room Tip: Definitely pay a little more for the deluxe double to get the extra space and better bathroom.

Impeccable service from staff. The room was immaculate, comfortable bed, quiet (room on the main street) and spacious for NYC. I had breakfast at the hotel and food quality was great. Went to the Rooftop for cocktails and loved it (casual and chic). Hotel location is superb. I would definitely stay here again.

If you want to stay near the Theater District, Times Square and be close to Central Park then The Refinery Hotel is your answer! It has an atmosphere of "cool" yet not "clubby," great rooftop bar with the Empire State Bldg. as a backdrop and very good amenities. The staff is excellent-- extremely professional and helpful. The hotel is an oasis among the sometimes madness of Midtown and the moment you walk in, it smells good throughout, the linens are exceptional and the room very well appointed. Our room was particularly quiet. Concierge Jared coordinated our Broadway show tickets with ease and professionalism and took the stress out of that aspect of our trip. The staff was always available to answer any questions, make suggestions, etc. and we were even treated us to a bottle of wine to help us celebrate our anniversary. Would stay again if needed to be in that particular area of the city.

Room Tip: Room 1101 was superb with view of Empire State Blgd.

I'd strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a touch of class during there visit to NYC. Based in a central location but not bang in the heart of time square (only a five minute brisk walk) it's perfect for exploring Manhattan. Rooms are stunning, bathrooms and products fantastic, and it was just a great experience.

The only slight drawback was the one night we tried to use the rooftop bar, it was absolutely bursting at the seams and we had no chance of a drink let alone a seat, a separate area for hotel guests would be an idea as it seemed to be full of the local socialites in the new place to be seen.

That's only a minor gripe, just book and see how good it is for yourself.

This is the third time I've stayed at The Refinery and it is my favorite hotel in NYC. The staff are super-friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and I always get an upgrade, if one is available. A special shout out to Mo for helping us at checkout! I'll be back ASAP!

It was difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel for the time period I was in NYC for business, so paid a little more than used to. However, The Refinery was a great find. The room I stayed in was so quiet and comfortable - hardly any street noise. The staff was friendly and helpful, although I wasn't very needy. If you want to splurge they have all kinds of in-the-room treats available (although I did not partake in any of them), including a bottle of locally distilled whiskey, exotic waters and gourmet snacks. The amenities were all there (bathrobe, safe, hair dryer, nice soap, shampoos, etc.). I felt very safe there, as you needed your key to work the elevator - which was nice. Also, there are two bars and a restaurant right in the hotel. I visited the Refinery Rooftop, meeting a friend there. Very nice meeting place, with good drinks and views of the midtown skyline (including the Empire State Building). All-in-all a great place to stay!

Room Tip: away from the street noise
