“Perfect for a business trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I stayed here for 6 nights while I was in New York on business.

The room was very small, as I'd expected, but very well designed. There was actually plenty of space for all of my luggage and other things. The bathroom/shower area was on the other hand generously sized which was a pleasant surprise. Very new and spotlessly clean.

The staff were without exception extremely helpful and friendly. I don't really enjoy hotels because I don't like the formal stuffy atmosphere you sometimes get but the Pod39 staff were very relaxed and genuine.

Location was excellent, good grocery shop and a great pizza slice place right round the corner. A few minutes walk from Grand Central, and I walked up to Penn Station and the PA Bus Terminal a couple of times in about half an hour.

I'd definitely stay here again if I were back in town on business.

Recently stayed at Pod 39 for first time after a work event. For a NYC hotel the price was perfect for a quick stay in the city. The room was perfect, without all the necessary frills you don't want to pay for. It might have been crowded with more than 1 person, however perfect for me. Everything was clean, quiet and the room came with a complimentary drink at the bar nextdoor. Plan to go back again.

This is how NYC hotels should be done. It uses space very economically but doesn't feel cheap or suffocating. I stayed in a well appointed double and had no complaints. The roof deck/bar is STUNNING. Great views of the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building. The restaurant is also great -- worth visiting even if you're not staying in the hotel.

Loved the pod and all it had to offer.
The only draw back is the lack of privacy the glass bathroom door gives you.
It was clean, cute and funky.
Close to Grand Central Station.
Will be returning the pod in the future.

Clean room. But AVOID the rooftop bar!!!! The front desk upgraded us to a "Queen" Pod, so it was much bigger than we expected. We were on the 9th floor, away from the elevator in a corner room. The view wasn't much, but it was the perfect place to crash. We had no trouble with noise. The staff were friendly- except the rooftop bartender. She refused to serve anyone at the end of the bar. WHY they didn't put a sign up, I don't know. The drinks were nothing special. The service (even after we moved down) was too slow. I would recommend getting drinks on the first floor and then going up to the roof. Salvation Taco was delicious. I highly recommend the ice cream dessert. Good experience overall. Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator!!!!

Upon our arrival at the pod I was greeted by a very friendly hipster doorman. We arrived at approx 1:30pm and were allowed to check in! Props for having the room ready early! The lounge/lobby area is pretty cool. Very trendy, they have board games and ping pong. There are iPods attached to the wall. I guess if you need a map. Personally, I didn't come to NY to hang in the hotel but if that's your thing, it's a decent space to be.
Walking into our room I felt like I was walking into a ikea display. And since I love ikea, that's fine with me. If you are staying with another person in your pod, make sure it's someone you know very very well. The bathroom offers very little privacy! The bathroom is separated from the room by a frosted glass wall. It is see through. It is not a poop-able bathroom if your traveling companion is in the room. Unless you have no shame. The bed is very comfortable but the pillows are like rocks. Get new pillows, pod owners. I like the toiletries. Made from wood and citrus. Very hip.
The room is small. Like very small. But they use the space well. It's perfect if you don't plan on hanging out in the room. My pod had a queen bed, desk, clothes rack, flat tv. The bed offers storage underneath it. It's even labeled for luggage Incase you couldn't figure that out. My pod had 3 windows. The noise isn't bad but it's not silent. You're in ny though so if you expect silence your in the wrong place.
The location was great as far as I'm concerned. About a 5 min walk to grand central. 15 min to Times Square. 25 min train ride to Yankees stadium. Close to shopping.
Overall I highly reccomend the pod. It's great and clean for the money. My suggestions to the hotel...new pillows..put a curtain up inside the bathroom to offer a little more privacy...and hang a full length mirror outside the bathroom somewhere. Hipsters need to check out their outfits in full. Also people need a mirror to get ready at the same time. A second mirror is a must. Other than that...loved it. We will be back

Convenient, clean, big enough for sleeping, the bed was fine, and even if the AC was loud, it worked just perfectly. There was a hopping bar downstairs which I did not use, but looked fun. I would go back!!
