“Great Value Nouveaux New York Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Pod 39 is conveniently located to Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library, and much more. It was very clean, service was good, elevators are fast, bars and restaurant are good. The rooftop bar is worth visiting. The single pod room is small but it is nothing like the dated hotels at similar prices/ It is laid out well enough so that you aren't bumping into everything as you move around the very small room. The desk was big enough to work at one morning and the shower/toiletries are better than you would expect. The windows actually open!

Room Tip: No tips except that if you are concerned about the size of the room get a queen bed pod.

Having been to NY many times over the years I can say that Pod 39 has now become one of my favourite hotels. The location is fantastic and the rooms are so chic and modern and super clean. Yes they are small but for the price and location it is so worth it and remember you are not going to New York to sit in your hotel!!!

Pod 39 is a very cute and trendy place! The place looks very clean and new. The staff was very nice and helpful. The had a restaurant that served Mexican food right in the building. SCORE! The also had the nicest outdoor patio on the 17th floor. Although it wasn't warm enough to hang out there and have drinks, I did go peep it out. I'm sure it's a big hit in the summer, it had a gorgeous view and ambiance. The room itself is small. However, it is clean and has everything you need. A tv, bathroom, a desk and a place to hang your belonging. I didn't mind the size too much since I wasn't planning on spendin much time inside. The bathroom is seperated by stained glass doors. So don't share a room with someone if you aren't going to be comfortable seeing them naked through glass! The location is perfect! It was an $8 to $10 cab ride away from clubs, shops, etc. There was a breakfast spot up the street....another score. Overall everything was great, especially for the price! This is my new go-to hotel when I'm in NYC!

It is a great hotel, with bar and restaurant on the ground floor and a roof top bar (not open when we visited) It is a really funky hotel with super staff, just be prepared for the tiny rooms! We did opt for a mini bunk for a 5 night stay, and we have trouble getting our suitcases in. I knew it was goign to be small, but we could have done with it being a tad bigger, but there are options to book a bigger room. We did have 3 windows though, and great bathroom and the air con/heating was really effective. It was comfortable, clean and modern.

The price right for this hotel, and location is great, it is about 2 blocks from Central Station. I would definitely stay here again.

Very good spot to stay for an overnight. Clean, comfortable, safe , friendly and economical. I will stay there again!!. Only recomendation is that they should install vending machines. I was poor underprepaired and woke up in the middle of the night very thristy. I had to walk to the store alone (3 blocks up) at 3:00am for water. It would have been fine if I was prepared and bought a bottle water before I retired but did not know that they did not have any vending machines...That's my only recomendation. When I go next time; if perhaps they don't have them I will be better prepared...no big deal. Really worth staying there

I have to agree on the comments posted earlier: our room was small that cannot be denied. We had bunk beds and moving around together around the bed area is impossible but if one is in the bathroom and the other then uses the space around the bed it works just fine. There was also only enough space to put one suitcase but we fixed that by using the little desk as suitcase storage for the 5 nights we stayed. The deskspace was vital since there are no shelves or wardrobes to unpack so you have to live out of a suitcase during your stay. Personally the latter did not bother me but just want to mention it. Since we literally only used the room to sleep and shower the size was not that important to us. The fact that it was super clean, the bathroom had a decent size (especially compared to the actual room), the staff very friendly and helpfull, the WIFI is included in the price (and worked very well when we stayed there) and the really good overall price of the room was more important to us. We were a bit hesitant for the neighbourhood but there was no need. It is close to the hustle and bustle but just far enough out to not have half of NY outside of the hotel during the time you want to sleep. We (2 girls) never felt unsafe at any time. Plenty of breakfast opportunities in the neighbourhood (I can recommend Zucker's (370 Lexington between 40th and 41st) .Dinner is a bit more tricky but not impossible. I can recommend this hotel and would stay here again but people need to decide for themselves if they can live with the rather small rooms or not. One tip: stay away from the bar / restaurant below. Overpriced food (the portions are ridiculously small and we are not into XL portions at all) but the worst are the bartenders (they all excelled in narcism but one guy in particular: Jeremy.) Cocky, selfabsorbed guys who cannot handle the amount of people in there and then work it out on the customer . To put it nicely they were just rude and this was the only time I was tempted to leave no tip. Yes the place is full every night but why is really beyond me. The food was good in flavour but that does not make up for the tiny portions and the attitude. 3 blocks away (3rd avenue between 37th and 34th ) you have plenty of good alternatives. I am not sure if the bar is somehow part of the hotel or not. If they are the manager of the bar should give his people the advice to take some lessons from the staff of the hotel on customer service.
