It is not often that I see somewhere I feel I must visit "whatever" but my wife and I were staying at The Pearl Hotel, next door but one and passed Lillie's on our way out to dine. As we passed we were "wowed" by the overall visual impact, stained glass, clocks, statues, busts small balconies, paintings.....just words.....see their website http://timessquare.lilliesnyc.com Whilst we stared in the window and admired, in typical NY fashion a chap outside either phoning or smoking said "Yeh and they serve alcohol too"!
After dining we returned to this haven of delight, apparently the second longest bar in NY, a great buzz, not too loud and real fun. Then there was dear Gloriana, the chatty, friendly young dynamo that virtually ran the whole bar single handed and still found time to chat. What great company! She encouraged us (we didn't need any!) to return the following evening after the opera for a light snack and drink. We did, the welcome and recognition was if were were permanent residents, the food is excellent in all respects and the pricing very reasonable.
Two fabulous and enjoyable evenings, IF ONLY we lived locally, we could become hooked!
