“Nice Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

As part of Mayor Bloombergs initiatives to improve the city's green spaces, it should be of no surprise that Carl Schurz Park (next to the Mayor's residence, Gracie Mansion), is an amazing place to relax on a sunny day. Integrated into the greenway that circles Manhattan, Carl Schurz Park is an amazing hidden treasure.

Among the major park attractions in Manhattan stands little Carl Schurz Park on East End Avenue and 84th Street, boasts the official residence of the Mayor of NY, lovely treed walk ways and stunning river views, quiet oasis amidst noise and activity of Manhattan

“"What a lovely oasis of peace & beauty!"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

While it's several block's walk from the subway at Lexington and 86th, this is worth the trek, especially on a sunny day (but retun on 87th to add more interest). We couldn't believe how quiet the park was, sitting there for decades on the edge of the East River and greeting us as we approached on 86th with two, grand, curving, concrete staircases. The little, sunken garden further to your left and under the stone walking bridge has a statue of Peter Pan, originally intended for the lobby at the now defunct Paramount Theater, and even in winter you can see that the park volunteers deserve two thumbs up for winning Garden of the Month, April 2012. And as a bonus, you can see where Mayor Bloomberg hangs out: Gracie Mansion is part of the property. Of course you need an invite for that visit.

“Not your typical tourist place...but a hidden gem! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

Beautiful park at the banks of the East River...with the Mayor's bungalow in the premises! It's a really pretty park - popular with residents from the neighborhood - either for a run with their dogs, a child in the stroller or simply to chat at the benches overlooking the East River. Come evening and you will see children playing basketball and some younger ones cycling...it's quiet, peaceful and a real park! This park is just adequately sized...not too large and overwhelming as Central Park. I love going there for a morning walk everyday and count my blessings that we have a park like this in the neighborhood! Go there if you want some peace in this city known for its fast-paced life and buzz...:)))
