“very nice and cozy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2010

I was afraid that this hotel was not good. But my apprehensive was set. The hotel not big, but very cozy and nice. The manager was very kind and tried to help us in all things. The position of the place is very good: not far from subway and Central Park, but enough removed from touristic places so it is very quietly nightly.
The one minus - not enough clean. We stayed there for 10 days and the linen wasn't changed.

I like small, boutique hotels and the location of this one was right for me since I needed to be near Columbia University and other uptown sites.

We stayed there in September for 5 nights. Very nice place with very friendly owner(s).

The area is very nice and the metro is just 2 minutes walking and central park another 8 minutes. Supermarket across the street .

Reasonable price and would go there again.

PS sheets/towels are replaced every 3 nights but this was told when we checked in.

  • Liked — Just out of the city ans still close (via Metro)

We went to New York for a weekend at the end of May and stayed at 102 Brownstone for 5 nights. It was an OK place to stay for the price, we paid about £500.

The room was nice and quite big, and the gentleman who checked us in was very nice. But for the 5 days we were staying, our room was not cleaned once. We think that our sheets were changed on the last night, but can’t be sure!

It would not take much to make this hotel a bit more special; a through spring clean, changing the sheets every day (or even every other day!) and fresh towels and toiletries. A lick of paint and fixing the light switches would not go amiss too. But, for the price, it was not bad. Quite, secure and a good location. In fact the location was probably the best aspect of this hotel.

It was about 4 minutes walk to the subway, right near convenience stores, and had a really good (if a little loud) restaurant across the road, Native. I would recommend it for that first night still-have-jet-lag-but-want-to-go-out-for-dinner feeling. The side order of fried plantain was fantastic.

We had the luna room and it was a beautiful room. Both the owners were very helpful and accomedating. Both my husband and myself were arriving at different times and Lizette ensured that a key was ready before my husband came she even helped me with my suitcase up the stairs which i have to admit was already heavy from the shopping i had already done!. The rooms were clean and a very good size. The only reason why i havent given it a 5 is because the location isnt the best however saying that the metro is literally round the corner and at no time did we ever feel threaten in the area.

My husband and I just returned from attending a gift and home decor tradeshow in midtown Manhatten and stayed at 102 Brownstone for 3 nights. It was a fantastic experience - both the Brownstone and Harlem.

The owners of this small, boutique hotel have put their heart and soul into their business and have created something wonderful. It is located on a beautiful street, offers very pretty, period detailed rooms, clean, comfortable beds, cool and quiet room(a rarity in NYC on hot summer evenings).

Our flight was delayed late into the evening, yet the owners made arrangements to greet us and make us feel very welcome. We traveled easily by subway and cab during the day and late evening (after midnight). Subway a couple of minutes away and cab ride quick and relatively inexpensive. Also quick back and forth from the airport.

I look forward to going back the next time we travel to NYC area.

We stayed at 102 Brownstone for about 5 days/nights in March 2007. We stayed in the Zen Room and would go back in a heartbeat. For less than the price of most basic hotel rooms in other parts of the city, we had what felt like a studio apartment -- with a full kitchen even. The brownstone was just a block and a half from the subway and a couple more to Central Park and the museums. We enjoyed the neighborhood and walked around a lot, day and night.

The only problem was that I wasn't able to get in touch with the owner right before our stay or during the entire stay to clear up a discrepancy on the invoice. My partner's firm ended up covering the bill, so it didn't become a big problem, but it did add some anxiety to my vacation.

Overall we loved this hotel and recommend it wholeheartedly!
