“Enjoyable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014 via mobile

Staff at hotel were very friendly. Location was pretty decent as long as you don't mind walking. Rooms were of a good size & very clean. Concierge was helpful, had several discussions around Shows, NBA & info was good on all matters. Would certainly look at availability if/when I return to NY.

Why a rough diamond? As many reviewers have said the Dumont is a little tired and needs refreshing. Though when looking at the whole picture - size of rooms, location to attractions, location to subway, staff, amenities - it's a rare Diamond.

We stayed for 14 nights - 2 adults & twin 10yr olds. We reserved a skyline 1 bedroom suite.

We were not disappointed - exact room we had reserved, with the added bonus of being able to see the Chrysler building from bed.....and, seeing most of the NYE Times Square ball drop from our room. With young children who couldn't keep there eyes open long after midnight - being able to see the ball drop from our room was great.

Now the important things.

1. Room
They are big. It was great to have a separate lounge room, and bedroom - with 2 TVs. Kids could watch cartoons, or go to bed without disturbing the adults.
Kitchen was very useful - though could use a couple more utensils e.g. Tongs, spatula, flipper. Also supplying just a little salt / pepper would be great.
Our fire alarm would go off if we didn't keep a window open, so sorting the ventilation out would be great.

2. Bathrooms
Bath & shower (combined) is great as kids often like to have a bath. There is a separate area to do make-up /hair, so this helped when 4 people were trying to get ready.

3. Bedroom
Beds are really comfy. We didn't use the pillow menu so can't comment. We had a separate area to place suitcases & clothes. Which helped keep the area clean and tidy.

4. Air conditioning
We found it way too noisy so turned it off. Didn't have a problem with this at all. Room was very warm - even when snowing.

5. Housekeeping
They were angels. We'd leave our room like a tornado, but would return to everything clean tidy & floors vacuumed.
There is a guest laundry, which was also very very useful. When you are travelling with kids being able to wash your clothes easily is wonderful.
The machines only take quarters, and you need $2 worth for washing then at least $2 for drying.

6. Lobby / Reception
All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Though we must give special mention to Juber. It's people like this hat make you want to come back somewhere.
He was always willing to help & we can't thank him enough for the help he gave us in getting us to the airport the day of he snow storm. As we ice skated to our car, Juber took all our suitcases & expertly manoeuvred them over the snow & in to the car.

7. Surrounding area.
You have several deli's a stones throw from the front door, and a larger d'agoustinos around the corner on 3rd avenue. You also have a Duane Reade just across the road. So anything you need is in easy reach.
You have the 33rd street subway two blocks up, Empire State is a 5 minute walk & Macy's is 10 min walk.
A brilliant location.

So all in all, yes the Dumont could do with a freshen up, though when you consider everything else that makes a hotel it really is a home away from home.

Can't wait to go back.

Stayed here with college friends in November 2013. Outstanding hotel right in the action of NYC. We stayed here for the UConn vs. Maryland basketball game in Brooklyn (GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!) and a night out on the town. Great service. Front desk called us a limousine to take us to Brooklyn for the game and there was complimentary wine tasting in the lobby while we waited. A nice touch!

The room was very comfortable. We stayed in the one bedroom suite with two queen beds and a pull out sofa. Comfortably fit 6 people and could have fit more! We stayed on a high floor and had an amazing panoramic view of the city with the Chrysler building right in the middle.

Rooms were very clean. Pillows and beds extremely comfortable. They do have a pillow menu where you can order whatever you prefer. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. It is quiet for being NYC, providing a good night sleep.

Empire State Building and many other popular attractions were within walking distance. Also, Penn Station is very walkable. There is a Dunkin Donuts right outside the lobby of the hotel for a quick coffee in the morning.

There is a parking garage not owned by the hotel right across the street that has very reasonable rates for overnight parking!

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a high floor to get remarkable views of the city. If your floor reaches above the...

We arrived at 11.30pm and were welcomed with a huge smile and a helping hand. Travelling as a family little gestures make a world of difference. We arrived late with our two very tired young sons to the concierge with a big smile and a helping hand. He then took us to our room, showed us around and told us about the neighbourhood ie where to eat, get coffee and he settled us in like we were staying in his own home.

The apartment was a great size, very clean and conveniently located. The location is fabulous so close to everything.

Great comfortable rooms, very good location and view, but the best was the staff, always so kind. We went on a family vacation with a baby, needed a room with kitchen for baby food.
Hoping to get back son!!

We had a nice stay here at the Affinia Dumont. The room we had was pretty large considering being in NYC. It included a mini kitchen, king size bed and a desk. The bed was comfy and you have a choice of pillows you prefer to sleep with. The room came stocked with coffee and a mini bar. The bathroom was simple at best but spacious. This hotel isn't posh, but pulls off the feel of a boutique hotel.
