“The only place to stay for us”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

I've been visiting NYC for +20 years and always stay at the DuMont if at all possible. Reasons:
1) centrally located
2) great staff, many of whom are like family, especially Juber!
3) one of the few suite hotels in Manhattan
4) perfect for business or family
5) much roomier than the average NYC hotel

My children (ages 5 and 7), my mom, and I stayed here for three days in January 2014. It's located down the street from the Empire State Building and near several restaurants, markets, etc. It's very close to the subway and right on a major bus route. We had a great experience, and I want to give a special shout-out to Juber, who enthralled my kids and was overall just a wonderful representative of the hotel.

My only complaint is that the full kitchen was not well-equipped - no baking dishes (why have an oven with nothing to bake in?), no measuring cups and spoons, no kitchen utensils. It did not take away from the overall experience, however. It's a great value, especially if you're interested in saving some money on meals!

The hotel was in a nice location, however the condition of the room was terrible. Visible dust everywhere, carpet was not vacuum, and poor looking furniture. Not to mention the room reeked of marijuana. I would not stay at this hotel again.

This was our belated honeymoon and upon arrival the staff made us very welcome. In our room was a complimentary bottle of champagne with a congratulations card, which was a lovely gesture as I had only mentioned it in passing when the booking line staff asked me why we were travelling.

We were affected by the winter storm to hit the US east coast around New Year and our flight was cancelled. The staff were excellent in helping us rearrange the flight with Virgin, and very accommodating in regards to our room, extending our stay and arranging transportation to the airport once we had resolved our flight problems.

The hotel was clean, the rooms were large and comfortable, excellent for our requirements & great value for money.
There was no on-site restaurant, but there is one right next door that also provides the room service. We never ate there but heard the food was good.

The location was also great, only being a block or so away from the subway. I would recommend buying an unlimited week pass for the subway if staying for more than 4 or 5 days.

Overall a great experience, I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Our family of 4 elected to stay here based on a lot of research and Tripadviser reviews, and like many other reviewers, we were thoroughly impressed with this hotel's spacious rooms and efficient, unobrusive level of service. As we were staying in NYC for 2 weeks, we really appreciated the extra space and full kitchen facilities.

We booked a Skyline suite well in advance and got what we felt was a very reasonable rate. The initial view that confronted us when we first opened the hotel room door was very special and one of those great holiday moments. It really said, 'Welcome, now this is New York!" (see attached photo). As we enjoy getting out and about on foot, we also found the location fantastic - walking distance to many of the main attractions - and an easy connection to the rest via a subway station just around the corner.

We'll have no hesitation returning to the Dumont when we revisit.

Room Tip: Higher skyline view rooms well worth the slight extra expense. Medical facilites in and around the...

Smooth check in. Booked via trailfinders stayed in room 2401 one bed suite. Huge, loads of storage, Clean, well presented, two large tvs and ice ready in freezer. Fab views over the east river amazing sun rises about 7.30 am. in morning. Really did set us up for the day. Easy walking distance to most attractions. We even managed to walk to the financial district but got cab back. Cabs cheap hardy worth using metro. We stayed for 5 nights
asked for kettle on first day arrived in minutes, late at night asked for help with heating and maintenance turned up in10 mins and helped us turn off heating. We rarely used it even in lounge. We would recommend eating at les halles if you like steak, just a few mins walk away. Yes the internet is slow in the communal areas but if that is my only complaint. We would stay here again in a flash.

I stayed at the Affinia Dumont with my 13 year old son, 17 year old daughter, and my mother for 3 days after Thanksgiving in 2013. We have stayed at several hotels in New York and often the rooms are small and expensive. We got a great rate for the weekend after Thanksgiving and the rooms were large and comfortable, even for 4 people. Our room even had a small kitchen that was great for making breakfast and late night snacks. The bathroom had great counter space and a large shower and the maids were thoughtful about leaving us extra towels for the 4 of us. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a wine hour with free wine in the evening that was a nice way to unwind in the lobby after walking around all day. There was a fee for wifi in the room, but it was free in the lobby so we all camped out there in the evening for an hour or so to check email, etc. The gym was small with some weight machines, treadmills, and a few bikes. However the bikes were broken when we were there. We liked the quiet neighborhood and were also happy to find a grocery store, pizza place, thai restaurant, laundry, and Starbucks within half a block. I would definitely stay here again.
