“Great location for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

Very happy with this hotel. So close to Times Square, Broadway and MOMA. It has been kept immaculate for its age and still has that old world charm. Joey at the front desk is welcoming and accommodating! Wee bit noisy for rooms on the street but it's NEW YORK! If you want a super deal stay here!

The hotel is old smells weird & our room was very stuffy! The concierge was terrible/rude/unhelpful when it came to ordering a shuttle to the airport. They obviously have a deal with certain shuttle companies which restricts what time u can get a ride to the airport. Would not recommend u stay here.

Dear David G,

Thanks for your review.
Indeed, this is an old property. I believe the building is over 150 years old, and the hotel has been in operation at least for the past 40 years. So it's easy to tell it's old.
However, the rooms (including the bathrooms) are in a constant process of renovation. All the bathrooms have been recently renovated (within the past couple of years), all the furniture is new (from January 2013), and we are working on the carpeting right now (which is a lengthy process since we have to have empty rooms for a couple of days to tear off the old carpet and lay in the new one).
I'm sincerely not sure what exactly you mean by "stuffy"; I would appreciate it if you would contact us directly at our email address so we could take your concerns to the owners and try to improve in that aspect.

I have been seeing less than flattering reviews about the concierges lately. Unfortunately, the concierge service does not belong to the hotel staff, it's an outside service. Again, I would kindly ask you to email us so we can bring this issue up with the owner of the concierge company and demand better training for their employees.
However, regarding their actual services, I am pretty sure you are right: they sell certain services and not others. But that's mostly what every private business does: a sunglass store decides which brands it sells, a theatre decides which movies it shows, a coffee shop decides which coffee flavours it serves, and a travel agency works with providers that have a contract with them... and they won't sell you any product or service they don't work with.
A concierge, up to a point, is like a little travel agency and they must have contracts with the companies to be able to sell you their services.
We will, however, mention this to the owner, to see whether it's possible to offer a wider range of options.

Best regards.

The room was just that - roomy. Everything was clean and welcoming. The staff tolerated out late check in. I had no complaints whatsoever and the hotel is so well located. I would stay here again in a flash.Good, honest staff too.
If I was to be overly pedantic, I could maybe grumble about the age and creakiness of the lifts. Who cares ? they do the job.... eventually.

We stayed there from Friday, September 27th - the 29th when we boarded our cruise ship. It was extremely clean and reasonably priced. Staff was most helpful. When we returned from our cruise on Sunday, October 8th, we took our bags there so we could go sightseeing before our shuttle to the airport. It is so close to Times Square and walking distance to all the theatres and great little restauarants. Definitely will go back!!

Room Tip: Not sure, we were on the second floor very close to elevator and steps. We had air conditioner that...

We stayed here as part of our trip to New York; Great location five mins from Times Square; our room was clean and comfortable; had iron and hairdryer, cleaned every day; very helpful and friendly staff, especially Joey. Budget hotel, but we were very satisified. Great deli next door, broadway on the doorstep. Enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: rear rooms quietier, we stayed on 2nd floor.

We stayed in this hotel because of the location. Given that all hotels in Times Square are expensive, the price is at par with the others, I suppose. But this is a VERY BASIC hotel. Bare bones. The room is small and bare, there is no air-conditioning - they took it out and even though it was in September, it's still not cold enough to not have one. The service is mediocre at best - the receptionist was ok, but doesn't even look at you when he answers questions. There was a concierge desk, but she didn't seem to act like one, but more like a person in charge of city bus tours and stuff (because that's all she did). As our flight was not til midnight, we couldn't leave luggages with the concierge. We had to pay for lockers to stash our luggages. If we can find another hotel in the same location with a better service at the same price, we would never stay in this hotel again.
